I usually lurk in the ROTC and SMC forums. There is a real interesting thread in the Merchant Marine Academy Forum "A call to action" It brings up the aspect of a blast email critical of the academy. I think it is important that your DDs and DSs know that they must be very careful of what they put in writing in an email or even a blog. It's permanent and cannot be ereased. Something put in writing on the web may outlast the pyramids.

One other aspect is that writing on the web can be sent to many people. This is something I never had to deal with in college. With the old onion paper, typewriter and correcto tape, I was lucky if my professor could read my writings and papers.

Remember: "Anything you say (write) can & WILL be used against you."

Guard your reputation, especially those of you who will need security clearances.

Kids are so tied to facebook now it is insane, and yet they don't understand this can be an issue. Look at your child's FB and they belong to groups. The problem is so can ROTC CC's, and now because of that action, they get to worm in through back doors.

They not only get to see posts, but pics too!

Candidates, cadets and mids need to learn that new internet forum is anonymous.

Our friend is a GS 15 step 9, high up there...military world he is an O6 close to General. He has a FB acct. Never posts on it. He only uses it as an employment tool. He will tell you that it is a make or break in his decision process.

A few yrs back, a ROTC fraternity got shut down because a friend tagged a cadet in the pic drinking a beer underage, and the more the CC dug, the more pics they found illustrating they violated the 0 tolerance policy.

Kids believe people over 30 don't know how to work the system. :shake: Fact is because we have been parents and accustomed to kids shading the truth we are sneakier than they could ever imagine! They forget we did the same crap when it came to our parents too!
