Merry Christmas

Beef Tenderloin here, also with Brussels, green beans, sweet potato casserole, cheesy potatoes, pretzel salad and great grandmas treat tray recipes. All traditional favorites that emote so many emotions and memories. Funny how good can do that!!

Oh, and DS got another nom, a call from congresswoman Christmas Festivus....a great present for sure.

We are not hosting this year, but I am required by family law to make the annual white chocolate-dark chocolate bread pudding. Let’s just say it involves 32 ozs white chocolate (there is a white chocolate nutmeg sauce in addition to what goes in the pudding), 8 ozs 72% chocolate, a dozen eggs, I don’t want to say how much cream and whole milk, top-grade Vietnamese cinnamon, Nielsen-Massey Madagascar pure vanilla, home-baked French bread, other spices, multiple bowls/whisks/pans/ovens/countertops/pounding of chocolate blocks/cooling off periods. The reward is the aroma. The mouthfeel.

It’s usually roast tenderloin (special order restaurant grade from the grocery store), assorted sides, depending on who is bringing what.

Wowzers on the bread pudding! I can’t imagine how delicious that is!!

My future son in law is part owner of a old fashioned, in the family butcher shop. Best meat this side of the Mississippi. Including bacon. It’s all a treat once a year for our big family, $$$ even with our family discount

It’s not food mag cover, but I wish I could attach the scent file.

So, DD pretty much lives on protein bars and delivery at USMA. The Mess Hall apparently leaves a great deal to be desired. We receive a request for her Christmas dinner weeks and weeks in advance. Repeatedly reminding us not to forget..... Kind of an annual thing now. Thank goodness for Costco!

My son flew in to our AOR and my daughter, her DH, and my two grandsons drove down 234 for breakfast and the annual ripping of gift wrap. DW whipped up scrambled with cheese, biscuits and gravy, sticky buns that’ll make you insulin dependent, and a fruit tray. Just joking about the fruit. There’s a ham in the oven that just woke me from a nap. yum yum

DD has a "hard lock" on sea food from the moment she gets home until She boards a plane headed East to the USNA. So its Paella for us. Chorizo sausage, bone in chicken thighs, 4 Lobster tails (sues vide in butter-n-basil) 8 super jumbo prawns, 1lb Pudget soundnbutter clams, 1lb Pudget sound mussels, all cooked together with basmati rice and saffron. 4 diver scallops seared and dropped into the Paella with the lobster just before hitting the table. Oh! Desert is an Angel Pie (my favorite) not very traditional, but my mom used to make Angle Pie on special days (it takes awhile). One of my girls honors Nana by making Angel Pies for me, it was a Christmas present this morning.

Along with a Husky basket ball game, we have 1) the 1952 version of A Christmas Carol with Alister Sims as Scrooge,(one of my top 10 movies); 2) Black Adders Christmas Carol; 3) DDs favorite Xmas movie Joyeux Noel later tonight. Should be a good day, after I get the lobster out of the shell and the shrimp cleaned

We've had DD around a lot lately. She had a long Thks Givining (Op Info) and flew home from the Army-Navy game for break. She's done with classes at USNA, so things are feeling very different this year. Thank you all for the posts you've offered up this year. This board and you folks are always a + in my day.

Happy Hanukkah! Merry Christmas to all celebrating! Early Happy Kwanzaa greetings!

Mmmmm! Everyone’s menu items, including the desserts sounded so delicious!

Our Christmas menu included kale salad with pears and roasted pecans with homemade honey mustard vinaigrette, homemade cranberry apricot chutney, sautéed Brussels sprouts, baked sweet potato fries, roast beef au jus, and sautéed scallops with a hen-of-the-woods mushroom.

Hope everyone had a magical holiday! Joy and peace to all!
