Mid-Year Grade Reports

The Instructions to Candidates Booklet states that, "If your transcript was sent during the first semester of your senior year, you must ensure that your high school sends us a transcript with seven semester grades as soon as they are available."

My 7th semester transcript will be released this week. I am wondering if I should just have my high school counselor email a PDF of the updated official transcript. That is what I am planning to do. My application file has been complete for 2 months now, I got a nomination in late November, and I am medically qualified. This is only thing that I really need to take care of at this point in the game. Just wondering how others have approached this since there is no form or anything to print out and give to the high school counselor from the application portal like there was for the original transcript submission.

Since admissions has already calculated my GPA on their adjusted scale to be a 4.7, will they recalculate a new GPA for me based on these new grades? I suspect my school's GPA will be dropping slightly due to a B in Calculus 3 (real tough college level class, so I am not too worried about this negatively affecting my application).

4.7? I thought admissions recalculated GPA’s on an unweighted scale meaning a 4.0 is the highest possible GPA.

But according to the class profile, the average recalculated GPA is a 3.85. I’d say your safe academically as long as you have decent test scores. I doubt your 7th semester grades would change anything.
 
Keep in mind that SAs are far less interested in your GPA and far more interested in whether you took the hardest classes your school has to offer — especially in math, science and English — and that you excelled in them.

If we did want to send our seventh semester grades - would USAFA just be able to drop it into our file?

Don't overthink this requirement. Most schools have a well-established processes to send transcripts to colleges - they should be able to send the seventh semester snapshot without a problem. Attached is the eighth semester transcript requirements from the Class of 2022 Appointee Booklet. I would use the same methodology for the seventh semester transcript.

If you are still in high school, you must ask your school to send a graduation transcript of your final grades by mail or a transcript service such as Parchment, as soon as possible upon graduation. If mailing send to HQ USAFA/RRS, 2304 Cadet Drive, Suite 2300, USAF Academy CO 80840-5025.​
 
I asked my USAFA counselor, she said if you receive an appointment they would need your final high school transcript.

Yeah, this is the GPA posted on my portal. I have a 1470 SAT,so I think academically I should be alright compared to averages, however, I know there are plenty of scores out there that top mine. 20190116_075942.jpeg

True that makes sense, but it seems that everyone, regardless of whether they've been appointed, needs to send an updated transcript with seventh semester grades based on the Candidate Booklet.
 
Your 4.7 GPA is the reason Service Academies place importance on Class Rank and Standardized Tests

Yep! All 4 years, I have taken the hardest classes available to me in those subjects, including Calculus since I was a sophomore, IB Chemistry 1, IB/AP Chemistry 2, IB Biology 1, AP computer science, Advanced physics, and AP Lang, AP Lit. I've also taken the hardest courses in history including APUSH in 10th grade, IB World History in 11th grade, and IB/AP Econ as a senior. For Spanish, I took preIB Spanish 2 and 3 my 9th and 10th grade years. I've taken IB Spanish 4, and I am now in IB/AP Spanish 5. I've pushed myself by taking all advanced weighted classes for my core subjects each of my 4 years, and my success in those classes has lead to a high GPA.

The 4.7 on my portal is their refigured GPA for me, but I was under the impression that it should be out of 4.0 . My unweighted is a 3.85 now, so I think that either way, it puts me at average. I am wondering why they have a 4.7 on my portal instead of the unweighted. I know they've reviewed my transcript twice. (See image)20190116_101414.jpeg
 
In my opinion your best bet would be to contact your admissions counselor, they are the only ones who can answer your question with any certainty.

Don't worry about GPA and how USAFA view's it. Its not uncommon to see the GPA on your portal above a 4.0 if that is how your school compiles GPA; not sure if that is the GPA they use when evaluating your application.
 
@skiergirl24, you seem to have done all you can school-wise, so well done. If your application is submitted, I strongly encourage you to stop worrying about things. What’s done is done. Enjoy your friends and family, as the rest of senior year will pass quickly.
 
I still feel there is an unanswered question here. I always thought that 7th semester grades were sent per a specific request for some applicants. skiergirl found documentation that suggests that all applicants would need to send this in. Does anyone know?
I am strongly leaning to the former thought. If the portal shows that it is complete, it is exactly that. If additional information is needed - it will certainly be asked for directly. Am I correct in this assumption?

That's what I thought too until I noticed the section of the instructions to Candidates booklet that suggested otherwise. I just had my high school mail my mid year grade report to USAFA.
