MIT NROTC

marciemi,

Since I only have a couple post, I cannot PM you. I can send PMs to following users only:
kp2001, usna1985, Stealth_81, TacticalNuke, bruno, flieger83, buff81, USNA1982BGO, 1964BGO.

As a frequent poster, is there one of those I can send my PM to & they will forward to you? Or do you have another way for me to PM?

Inquiring_Parent - you can email me at my old email (and I'll give you the new one) of rjohnson87 (at symbol) new.rr.com. We moved this summer but are still getting those forwarded. Or, if you'd prefer, you can PM Buff81 and ask her to forward or email your message to me as we're good friends and I'm sure she would! Looking forward to talking with you!

As I said earlier, in my son's experience in NROTC, everyone gets a scholarship if they join and are qualified.

I wonder if this is also the case for the other branches of ROTC.

How many are in NROTC at MIT?

This is not true of the other branches in my son's experience. He said that AF and Army ROTC at MIT have far fewer students with scholarships. The rep even said that when we were to the career fair there during CPW (the Prefrosh visit weekend). Army & AF were handing out water bottles and t-shirts and all kinds of cool stuff. Navy had some brochures. When I commented on it to the Army officer he replied "That's because they have scholarships to give out instead!" (And I decided I'd take the $42K tuition over a water bottle!). I don't know the exact percentages, but my son definitely says it's not everyone in those branches. Also, keep in mind this is just for MIT that I'm representing (and the schools in their battalion - Harvard & Tufts). I don't believe this is the case for NROTC at all schools. My son's class at MIT in NROTC has 10 students (from all 3 schools combined). Freshman class is bigger but I think there are only a handful of seniors. Last year they had 31 in the battalion (this includes some Marine Option as well) but I know with Harvard incorporating NROTC in admissions this year they have more (maybe 20 freshmen?).
