Hi everyone,

As my plan B I am thinking about applying to Marion Military Insitute SAP just in case I do not got a nomination or admission.

Does anyone know how I can get an AOG Scholarship? I am meeting with my RC in two weeks. Should I express interest in this scholarship?

Also does anyone know about the acceptance rate from MMI SAP to West Point?

Thank you!

Hey Alpha - hate to sound like I am being a stickler however - there is a great discussion page for entitled Service Academy Prep Schools you should check out - great info on that page. However - I can weigh in a bit. It will not hurt to let your RC know you are interested in an AOG scholarship. There are 50 extended per year so they are not easy to secure but a GREAT option if available. Also if you do not secure an AOG - you can go self -prep as well.

Check out the page and do a search and you can find some great info!

JWP always has great insight.

MMI is a great school with a good track record. There has been a lot of agreement over the purpose of Prep School and I can understand both aspects. I would consider attending a Prep for a multitude of reasons. You need to do your research on which school is the best fit for you.

I would encourage you to mention AoG scholarships with your RC. Ask your RC about your strengths and how to build up your WCS.

The AOG scholarship is only awarded to those who have completed their application, were deemed fully qualified, received a nom, but were not given a offer. You have to be fully qualified to get an AOG scholarship.
You could mention to your RC that you are willing to go to a prep school if not selected. He/she chooses who gets the AOG scholarships and usually with the advise from the state FFR coordinators. There are not many given and usually go to the candidates who were on the bubble.
As far as the acceptance rate from MMI to WP - if you have an AOG scholarship, the appointment to West Point is yours to lose. They give you the scholarship with the intent on admitting you the next year, unless you really mess up. The rate for unsponsored is not as high.

@JWP and @tug_boat thank you for the helpful responses! I will check out the USAMPS thread.

USMAPS and a Civilian Prep School are two different things. MAPS is reserved for recruited athletes, Under represented minorities, and prior enlisted that admin wants. They just need to be sharpened up academically. Civilian Prep like MMI, NMMI, and NWP are examples of civil run programs that are foundation programs that AoG scholarships can be used. Two types of students "sponsored" and "self-prep". Sponsored students are "Falcon scholarship and AoG" recipients and self prep are paying their own way. Either way, USMAPS or Civilian students must get a NOM.
