If they are calling on their cell, then most likely yes.

However, our MOC's calls from his office are clearly identified, for example from his SA coordinator or (shudder) his robo-calls

Well, they might. I suppose this means that you may have to risk taking that call from the guy telling you that your computer is compromised and for a small fee, he can "fix it for you". Or it could be that Nigerian Prince wanting you to accept $1,000,000.00 from "the Royal family", and all you have to do is give him your bank account and routing numbers.

All I can tell you is that when my DS received the first one of these calls - it was from the actual MOC - from their cell phone, and that number was not obfuscated in any way. I told him, "you need to put that number in your contacts, buddy!"

Yes, many MOC's like to deliver good news, personally.

My DS got his nomination call from the MOC while at school. He got "called down to the office!" DS went down and kept wondering "what the heck did I do wrong, now?! " When he got there they handed him the phone and he was pleasantly surprised.

When DD received her call from the MOC on a cell phone, it showed as "Washington DC" as origination of the call. So, I'm guessing this was a land line.

Same for DS. Phone call from MOC and then later from Senator both said “Washington DC”

While it’s great to get the call, if you miss it, your appointment will NOT be delayed. And some MOCs don’t call.

On Wednesday night my DD said something about not being able to take the call if it came during school and not being sure what to do about that. Thursday she got called to the office for a phone call and it was our MOC. Glad he called the school instead of her cell.

DS' MOC called our home (I was WFH and answered). It showed up as a local number with some random person's name (certainly not the MOC's name, but maybe a staff member's...?). Our MOC was hoping that he had called DS' cell phone, but then realized it would've been in the middle of school and probably not an ideal time to call. We're hoping for a callback when DS is available to speak with him, but we were grateful for the call nevertheless.

Our MOC does this as well...lucky I called their office prior to in order to let his staffer know that *should* some good news come in, DS was actually IN Washington DC at that time. She worked out for the MOC to make a visit to the office between meetings to congratulate DS in person! :)

DD received her MOC call in Calc class. In hindsight I'm sure the teacher would have allowed that call but DD let it go to VM where the MOC left a very nice message about her appointment. I suspect she still has that VM.

DS was in school. MOC staffer contacted me to say the Academy had questions and needed to speak with DS. Coordinated with school to pull him out of class at a set time. However, it was not the Academy - but our MOC congratulating him on the appointment. Still the best day EVER!!!

I had just picked DD up from college and we were on our way to watch her former high school teammates play a soccer game. We made a pit stop at a McDonalds when the MOC called- his name displayed on her phone. Thankfully it wasn't too crowded - we didn't whoop and holler, but we did celebrate with a little arm-waving, and we couldn't stop smiling. Best McDonalds trip ever, even if we did get some strange looks from the employees.
