Some months before I went to Navy OCS, I had a regular check-up with my childhood dentist, a former military dentist. I told him what my plans were, and he immediately did another review of my wisdom teeth, noting the Navy would probably take them out, as he would himself in the next 2 years, and he offered to do them now. The Navy would do them when it was convenient for them, and all 4 at a time, He did one side, then the other, though he could have done all 4, because he said it was much more comfortable, and I could eat better using the untouched side. Spaced 2 weeks apart, as I recall. I suspect today’s insurance plans don’t typically approve 2 surgeries for routine extractions.
Oddly, another wisdom tooth grew in about 8 years later. Navy dentist took it out. Who knew about other teeth hanging out waiting to appear?!
