So I am applying to the Merchant Marine Academy and I have received 2 congressional nominations. Does this give me a better chance of getting into the academy?
No. I had three and didn't get in.
Three tries to get in ... three tries to get out.
I had all three nominations all three times I applied, in the end I eventually graduated and nothing else matters.

Anchorman ...Reminds me of the joke, "What do you call the guy who had the lowest grades in medical school?"
Currently, I have 3 nominations to USMMA, and I expect to get about 5 (I haven't heard back from 4 MOC's) ... Will this help my chances of getting an appointment?
the deputy maritime administrator, Mike Rodriguez, was supposedly the anchorman of '79. Anyone know if that's accurate?
In the interest of sharing different experiences, when applying for junior engineering positions I was often asked for my GPA. One shipbuilder I worked for would not interview candidates for "engineering" positions or take interns who did not have a 3.0. Later in my career it never came up, but for "design office" type junior engineer positions GPA, have you passed the FE exam, etc, were pretty common vetting tools. No one has ever asked about my GPA or class standing other than applying to grad school.
