Hello!

After being awarded my ROTC scholarship, the next and last initial hurdle is DoDMERB. I had back surgery to repair a herniated disc in my L5-S1 last year from sports, and I am gathering all my records and building my case right now. It was a microdiscectomy, NO fusion, and only on ONE level. I am currently better than ever and engage in frequent strenuous exercise. It is totally asymptomatic.

My question is this: Can I submit multiple letters to build my case? Are they all considered?

They will all be glowing reviews, as I have spoke to them already about this.

I want to submit:

  • Operating Surgeon (MD, FACS, Professor at Northwestern U)
  • Family Doctor (MD, First one consulted)
  • A consulted orthopedist (MD)
  • My Physical Therepist (DPT)
  • Athletic Trainer

I saw a chiropractor who could also write one, but I was a bit wary of including a "non-traditional" source. Feedback?

ANY and ALL comments appreciated!

Zack

What has DODMERB requested? My somewhat limited understanding is that they typically want a report from your surgeon. If that is determinative, I don't know that other/additional letters will help. But I would check with DODMERB.

Nothing yet. I have not had the physical. I just want to have them ready.

Did you have the physical? When my DS went they did not want any of the information and he had to wait for the remedial to come. You need to have all the paperwork ready with recent releases from the physician.

Had my physical a week ago today. My examiner read through all three of my letters and assured me that they would be sent in my packet to DoDMERB!!

Examiner also read all the letters, said my case looked strong.
