NAPS Ask me anything!

Best part

Worst Part
Best part: got the opportunity to attend my dream College and to prepare for it. I feel so much prepared now. I also met a lot of people that I would consider friends for the rest of my life.

Worst part: academics. You wont have time for anything and you will be stressed about homework the majority of the time. It will suck. But it will be ok in the long run.

Is the experience exactly the same for USCGAS AND USNA Prepsters?

Yes its the same for both USCGAS and USNA they have the same schedules, play on same team even go to the Naval Academy for a week at least that was what my son experienced laat year.

The Coasties do not go to Annapolis. Instead, they go to New London when the M/C take their trip to USNA.

Also, Coasties do not take the PRT. Instead, they take the Coast Guard’s PFT.

Other than that, it’s the same experience.

My son who is a Coastie did go to Annapolis for the week, wrestled with the Navy team and attend some classes. He really enjoyed his week there but he missed the Army Navy game because the NAPS wrestling team had a tournament that weekend. Of course he was at NAPS in 2022 so maybe it changed last year.

Maybe it's changed as last year the Coasties when to USCGA when the M/C went to Annapolis.

Hope your son is thriving and doing well at USCGA!

Best: learning time management and going to Extra Instruction (EI) even if you did not need it, great instructors who want you to succeed, getting physically fit, town and overnight liberty, getting a leg up on the military ProKnow, visiting USNA for Air Force week and the Army Navy game in December, and finally at the top of her list making great friends.

Worst: winters in Newport, dark, dreary and windy cold, and being on base most of the time.

Ask me any questions, I will try to answer to the best of my ability and knowledge.
Thanks for the offer,
My DS is heading off to USMMA next week and I-doc day is July 5th but still on WL for NAPS (his preferred option). He turned down appointment for USCGA. How long can NAPS WL typically go and what is the 'protocol' if he would get an offer for NAPS and leave USMMA? Thanks in advance.

When are sports tryouts(specifically football) and how selective is it? Also is there a place where NAPS sports media is posted?

My DS is on the NAPS waitlist, any idea of the last day for potentially being called off the waitlist?

Yep my son current enjoying liberty off the Eagle in Barbados so everything is great andbhe loves USGA. NAPS was tough but he really bonded with both Navy and Coasties during his time their. It really prepped him for his SWAB year. It's a shame they didn't get to go to Annapolis as it is rare to het to see how life is at another Academy.

Lol I will just say that my son ate alot of Subway sandwiches which in any other circumstance he wouldn't touch. He said NAPS taught him to eat anything but he does say he likes the CGA food.

Does NAPS still take candidates for USMMA? I remember a few of my classmates at Kings Point in the 80's were from there.
