I am a high school senior and I have accepted my offer to USNAPS, but I am having an issue with my anatomy class where I have a 45 and there is nothing I could do about it at this point. All my other grades are:
Calculus scholars: 82
English honors: 86
Government: 98
Music: 97
Gym: 82

Would my offer be rescinded due to anatomy?

Is a 45 a D or F? What will be your final grade?

I don’t have an answer, hopefully someone will pop in. I’m sure you are not the first person to have this come up. I’m sure it’s stressful for you! Hang in there, whatever the answer!!

You are going to the prep school because you are weak in some area that needs improvement. They have selected you for the prep school because they believe you have potential. I don't think one low grade will cause a rescind. Make sure you have a good reason for the grade in case they ask and not because you just slacked off.

I am in pretty much the same boat as you and I have been assured that my prep school nom won't disappear due to poor grades. Also the prep school should be reporting directly to the academy on your progress in your program and so when your application is being considered they weigh your prep school year much more than your high school grades/ extracurriculars/ community service. BASICALLY, its what you do in this coming year that really counts so go all out and study hard!

DD went to NAPS for class of 2019 and they didn’t ask for her final semester grades.
You will need your high school diploma to enlist and I would work on getting that done as soon as you graduate. In my area they weren’t familiar with the process and took a while going back and forth.

Didnt they request a final transcript to be mailed to both the academy and NAPS?

They did not request her final semester transcript . If they request from you send it and don’t worry. As long as you will be graduating from High School. I think you should be fine. Good luck at NAPS.

No one here can tell you what the impact of a failing grade will be. If (I don't know whether they do or don't) USNA or NAPS asks for your final transcript, it will likely draw some scrutiny and request for explanation. Somebody that gets an Offer to NAPS certainly has the ability to get a passing grade in Anatomy, so there has got to be a story behind it. If there is a a good reason, not an excuse, it probably won't make a difference, On the other hand, if it caused by a problem of your doing -- take ownership of the problem. If you try to quibble or shift the blame on someone else, it is more likely to be an issue.

Maybe a more interesting question is, how do you get an 82 in Gym??? Maybe things have changes since I was in HS, but basically all you needed to do for an A in gym was to:

1. Show up
2. Put on gym clothes
3. Participate in whatever lame "gym" activity was going on
4. Not get in a fight
5. Shower and get dressed

I could usually accomplish all of those each day and make an "A".

HAHAHA I'm sorry I forgot to explain that. I take marching band gym so it's not like regular gym. We dont have to wear gym clothes. However, we need to show to performances and play well to recieve a good grade. Play a final based on a piece of music. And be able to march in tempo. I didnt do well on my playing exam and I had a sprained ankle so I couldnt march with a heavy drum on. So I got an 82

Okay, that makes more sense. As a parent, I'm happy to hear that you didn't fail in Item 4 - "fighting" above. Save your fighting for later...!

I disagree, I dont think i ever got an A in gym when I was in high school and I did everything you indicated. We were graded for our abilities which is as fair as being graded in art class for our drawingg capablity. If you combine Junior High and High School, i think i got one "A" and that was for one quarter where I happen to be the best archer in the school. I was happy to get a B in PE and that wasnt often. Which leads to my next question, why were all the really good looking girls (who seemed older than they were) allowed to leave PE earlier by the male PE coaches. What was going on there?

To OP: Anatomy is basically a memorization class. Memorize all the body parts, and you are most of the way there. Can't do anything now, but just work harder in the future at memorization type classes.

Just curious, what was it about your application made you stand out despite your grades to get an offer to NAPS? Sports? Something else?

I was told that even though I was not the strongest candidate I have a lot of potential to become a good officer. Nothing specific was given.

Make sure you understand why you got a 45 in Anatomy.

Were you stuck with this class or did you choose it?
Did you spend time learning anatomy? or did you just think that seeing it in class would do it?
Did you learn for recognition or recall? That is, do you say "oh, yeah, humerus, that is the leg bone when you see it" or did you make your self practice labeling things with no clues?
Did you never see the topics? (e.g., did you read/pay attention/do the homework/go to class)?
Did you change how you study after the first bad grade?
Did you get help from the teacher?
Did you get a tutor?
Did you blow this class off because you had other things going on and concentrated on your core classes?

Take this chance to learn that hiding your head in the sand is not an effective method.
