National Guard/ROTC after West Point?

I left West Point at the end of my Yuk year due to grades. I am currently in ROTC at a 4 year university and am looking to join the National Guard. The recruiter for my area is saying that I will have to attend Basic Training this summer, however I have also heard that it is not necessary because of Beast and Buckner.

Has anyone gone through this before and are there any tips I should know about when dealing with the recruiter?

What did your ROTC cadre tell you. Number one piece of advice regarding recruiters is only talk to them after you have discussed your plan with your ROTC cadre.

My Professor of Military Science suggested that I join the Guard to have a better chance of getting a contract, but nobody seems to know what I fall under due to my time at the academy

Are you joining the Guard and still planning to commission? If so, and you're planning on doing SMP then yes you can avoid BCT. Be aware that Active Duty could be off the table depending on the benefits you receive from the Guard.
