Hello,

I have recently posted on this forum about an issue I am having with CST being moved till next summer due to summer school/internship conflicts.

I have spoken with my Cadre on the matter and I was told that the only way to move CST till next summer due to summer school/internship conflicts would be to convert my National Scholarship to a GRFD Scholarship.

I am looking to get more information on this.

Does changing to GRFD mean I must begin drilling with a unit as a Cadet?
Will I have to complete Basic Training or some form of training?
Does this change my service obligation?

Any information is greatly appreciated!

Thats a dumb answer from your cadre. Are you contracted? If not then tou would have to enlist and if contracting immediately you wouldn’t go to basic training. If currently contracted no basic training.

Just because you have a grfd doesnt mean you bump to next year. Are you planning on going NG or reserve? That is a valid reason usually to bump to allow an internship for civilian employment.
Are you taking 4.5 or 5 years(STEM)- then its also a good reason to bump as CC is looking to bump 100s of cadets.

@Montana State Army ROTC
I am contracted, I contracted during my MS1 year on a 4 year National Scholarship.
I joined ROTC straight out of high school, no Basic or Enlistment.

I want to commission into the reserves. I was also told that this would help my proposal of moving CST to next summer because of the internship. but I was also told that I would have to change to GFRD.

Is changing to GFRD really the only way to let Cadet Command know that I want to go reserves?

(I am pursuing a B.S in Computer Science, a 128 hour degree that typically takes 4.5 years but can be done in 4. I have been taking 18-19 hours a semester to do so.)

What are my options here? Do I have to go GFRD to ask for reserves? Will I start drilling with a unit now if I do? Can I stay with my National Scholarship and still let CC know I want reserves?

It makes no sense to force you to go grfd now. You would have to start drilling. For some it may be a good idea to build up a some more time or skills. But certainly not required.

How else can I select the reserve component upon commissioning? I think that's what my cadre wants, for me to select reserves so that it helps the argument of pushing camp back
