National Waiting List

P.S. Our candidate has been 3Q for months (with several noms) and we haven't received any additional communication from WP since then. It's hard to wait. Lol.
It's honestly hard to speculate all that. I have been thinking about it over and over scrolling thru instagram on past classes and checking when those cadets got their BFEs. It went all the way from January to mid April though I can't really figure out how many got theirs in each month respectively. I've been 3Q for about 2 weeks now and I'm already getting tired of waiting. I can only imagine how bad it would be for you since it's been multiple months for you.

Same with my DS. 3Q since mid November, one senatorial nom, one service-connected nom, not superhero-like stats but a pretty strong, solid application, and the portal has not changed at all for months. Every time the appointment list gets updated, I can imagine how thrilled candidate and their families must be but my heart kind of sinks a little because if those 10% figures are correct, a huge majority of appts have gone out. Trying to chill out and tell myself, there has only been one appt on the list very early on from our state, so maybe they just haven't gotten to our state and that hopefully word will come soon. Hang in there and good luck to your candidate!

(Not even sure if they go through the applications state by state....just assuming they do since there haven't been many appts from ours)

Civilian college admissions is like throwing all the pieces of two jigsaw puzzles on a table and trying to put just one of them together. SA admissions is like throwing all of the pieces of five jigsaw puzzles together and then trying to put just one of those puzzles together.

The length of wait could be affected by many factors:
  • Admissions simply hasn't gotten to that piece of the puzzle yet
  • A piece is a corner piece and it is easy to tell whether or not it fits
  • A particular piece fits into a couple of spots and they have to figure out which spot is best
  • Two pieces are almost identical and it takes time to figure out which piece fits
  • Or it could be that a particular piece is simply not going to fit

Did the "standard" letter say that most appointments would be offered between March 1 and May 1st? If so, what was the exact language on that? In years past a huge wave (what I would call "most") went out the last week of January and the first week of February. There are even pictures of boxes and boxes of BFEs on the Internet (from previous years) showing them ready for the Post Office- at least 500 to 600 appointments. I'm wondering if this has already happened this year or if things really are different (which I'm doubting) due to Covid. Just trying to get a feel for where the admissions committee is on the offers.
The letter said: He was on the National Waiting List and that a few hundred appointments would be made from this list and that most appointments would be offered between March 1 and May 1st.

Waiting is so difficult. Appointments are made from now until right before R-Day. This was my son's second time applying. We have learned so much about the whole process but still are in the dark about a lot of it.

CFA just went green this morning and received my NWL letter. Does anyone know when West Point will offer appointments to the top 150 on the NWL?

Appointments are not offered sequentially and how an appointment is charged may not be figured out until much later.

Some who end up as QA's (top 150 after congressional/service appointments) have probably already received appointments and some will continue as the process continues.

My DS’s portal changed today to CONGRATULATIONS - you are admitted. We was only placed on NWL last week. He is very happy. This forum was so helpful - thank you.
Congratulations!! What day of last week, if you don't mind my asking?

The waiting is torture. When my DS was put on the NWL I didn't sleep for two nights. Before that it was waiting for the CFA to turn green. That was an anxious week as people were posting their DSs and DD's portal turned green.

DS got 2Q letter December, got waiver mid-January, was told he won his slate and was appointed from his Senator calling him on Jan 25th, got appointment on portal on January 27th, got BFE on Feb 25th.

He was hoping to get notified that he was on the NWL, (WHICH IS A GOOD THING), but in his case (probably because he won his slate) he was just notified of appointment. His letter of 2Q could of course not state that he was on NWL because he was not fully qualified at that time.

He is so excited that I think that he is in serious danger of straining all the smiling muscles in his face... everything we have been told has been majority come out in March to May timeframe so keep the faith, and congrats on NWL!!!!!
