Naval Academy Inspire Program

Hello, I am a junior in high school currently and accepted to NASS and INSPIRE, I'm going to INSPIRE next month, did they send you a list of things to bring or anything regarding hotel information?

I already submitted the form for me and my mother for travel expenses, but I haven't received anything regarding what to bring or anything about hotel accommodations

Thank you!
I got accepted as well, I believe they'll start sending out stuff regarding your tickets and what to bring beginning April 1st according to the email!

I was invited to apply for the INSPIRE program in September of last year. I was somewhat skeptical just because it came from a gmail account. But I looked on here and it seemed legit. So I applied for it and answered a couple of pretty basic questions, I then didn’t hear back for awhile and was surprised that I got in! The main difference for INSPIRE and CVW, is that all expenses are paid for INSPIRE for you and a parent, whereas CVW is not. I’m also from CO, so flights to MD and everything is super expensive so I was super thankful to have been accepted into that program. I went there and was able to meet the dean of admissions as well as the brigade commander and some individuals on the admissions board, which I think differs from CVW (don’t quote me on that). One of the admission board members (naval officer) held a brief for all the parents, (I wasn’t there, I was shadowing my plebe) and he was asked about this program and how the selection process goes. He told everyone that this isn’t a random selection process and most individuals who attend inspire get a USNA appointment. He couldn’t guarantee of course, but he said the admissions board looks at your app before offering you an inspire spot. Moral of what he said, is that if you get into INSPIRE, it’s a very good indicator for you. They also had several really fancy dinners and my mom and I had a super fun time just being able to walk around and learn more about the town and the academy. My mom was sold on the naval academy from that visit, and so was I, as I was actually able to experience life as a mid for two days. I would definitely recommend applying/signing up for it if you can! Great experience!!

How did you do on the CFA when you went there. The program is only a couple weeks away and I’m not sure I will get a good enough score this time due to not a lot of training. Is that embarrassing? Do most people who attend Inspire do super well on the CFA?

Yes they send out a packing list. I didn't get an email regarding hotel information but they had it all set up once we arrived. Have fun!
@anausna28 I was curious if you already received the itinerary? I submitted and completed it the same day I got the email. I received a notification that they picked up my travel form on 25 March, but I haven't received the itineraries yet. I wonder if you have already received them. Thank you.

I went to inspire back in October so I only have that itinerary. If you email them they should send resend it to or tell you when it will be sent out.

Should come out starting April 1st

Hi everyone! Question for those who have gone to past Inspire Programs while we are waiting for itineraries.
Does the 3 day date given include travel dates or are the travel dates outside of that?
Were you given a choice as to flight times?
Do you know if others outside of the sponsored parent are able to join if they pay for their own flights? If so are they able to join the parent events?
Thanks in advance!

The email we received today does confirm that there will be an “optional” cfa Saturday morning. I advised my son to take it and see how he does. He was also shooting to peak at summer seminar in June. However, you never know if you’ll get injured or something else comes up. If you can “pass” in April, then it’s less pressure down the road. Of course, if you improve, then just send in new scores later. Even if you don’t “pass”, I don’t think you have to submit the scores, and you’ll have a good baseline. This is good motivation to start training now…these are exercises you’ll want to continue doing even after the cfa…well, maybe not the bball throw, haha.

Great program. Glad you are applying. Here are some recommendations and a packing list I provide to my students heading to Inspire and/or CVW . . .
1. Bring homework (or SAT prep) so you don’t annoy your Plebe when s/he has to study.
2. Dress so you don’t stand out. No logos or bright colors. Khakis & collar shirt for arrival and class. Good walking shoes to walk quickly from place to place. Avoid NAVY gear! (as it attracts unwanted upperclassmen comments, etc.)
3. Be prepared - pack gym clothes, swimsuit, layers for weather and varying indoor/outdoor temps.
4. Bring a good attitude, have fun, ask (good) questions and make a good impression (but don't try too hard) ... you might bring some cool snacks to share with your hosts and other Plebes
5. Don't be offended by any nicknames, as the mids will refer to you as "a drag" or "their drag" or similar.
6. TRAFFIC is ugly around USNA so anticipate issues arriving on time and plan accordingly!
7. Pack light . . . Avoid bringing a large suitcase as lugging it up the stairs of Bancroft is a pain. Use a backpack that is easy to carry. Here's a suggest list of items to bring:
- One khaki pants (or similar) for arrival and class wear
- One collared shirt (or similar blouse) for arrival and class wear
- One cotton T-shirt for when you get tired of the collared shirt
- Two pairs of shorts, one for exercise, one for sleepwear
- Two dry fit T-shirts, one for exercise, one for sleepwear
- Three pairs of socks and underwear, just in case
- A sweater or sweatshirt, and wear a jacket for layers
- One pair of running/tennis shoes
- One pair of Crocs/sandals for room and shower wear
. . . For bedding, just bring one small bedsheet and a small sleeping bag. You will sleep on cots. You can do without a pillow for two nights.

I hope you get to go -- and have fun!
Thanks for this list! Are you considering khaki and a collared button down “business casual” for the class visits and reception? Here’s wording from the email: it’s slightly confusing to us, but maybe my definition of business casual is different
All: Business casual is what we are suggesting for daily attire. You will not need any formal wear, you can wear business casual to the final dinner as well. Please do not forget your toiletries and any sleepwear you will need. The days are very long (approx. 7:30am-8:00pm each day) so please dress in comfortable business casual attire.

You will be shadowing the Midshipmen in class, and you can not wear athletic gear in the classroom, so business casual would be most appropriate.

In addition to the items below, you should bring appropriate attire. This includes clothing that is tasteful, comfortable, and casual such as jeans, t-shirts, and sneakers. You must wear close-toed shoes. You must bring at least one pair of pants to wear during lab activities.

Yes, that is what I would call "business casual." I think it makes a better impression that jeans and t-shirts. But, in the end, as I tell my students, it is your call. Have fun at NASS!

Hi!
Hope you are doing great, I would like to ask you, do you have a response to this question yet?
my family and me have been wondering this since a few days ago, and I was planning in sending an email to her between today and tomorrow
Thank you for this amazing question!

I used the search function here, and found this as far as schedule. Tons of past discussion if you dump in your query:

It seems travel date is within those days and not outside of them, and that other parents may be welcome if they pay their own way!

We went last year and it was amazing! Your travel will be booked and no choices given. Additional parents were in my group so I would guess you just have to let them know. Great experience.

Did parents have any chance do see the town on their own? Or was the schedule filled all day?
