Navy 2020 NSI dates

+1 to ProudDad. I'm pretty sure all college programmers will be required to attend NSI at some point in addition to all SMC midshipmen. Keep in mind that college programmers do NOT attend CORTRAMID, one must be on scholarship to do that. It seems to be that what they are shooting for is 'No NSI, no advanced course/standing (in essence)'.

Frankly I'm not so sure on why they are so "hip" on NSI. Plenty of fine midshipmen commissioned without it. But it's their program and they get to run it how they want. Besides, they didn't consult with me. :D

from what ive read they are hip on it to ensure the highest level of readiness and training, and to be in control of the consistency of that training.

Uhhhh.... OK. I might buy some consistency in training, not that they get trained in much. I might buy some control over soft skills like teamwork and discipline, although I think they can get those soft skills at a unit freshman orientation. Readiness? I hardly think 2 weeks before college really creates a high state of readiness, but that's just my two cents.

Oh I don't doubt that. They may even actually think that but in my opinion they're full of it. At the stage it's never about the training itself. It's about the pressure, stress, discipline etc to get through the training. If they can't cut it in the squad bay chances are they won't cut it in combat. There is certainly also some "standardization" in training since everyone has the same, or similar, experience.

Do cadets get to choose NSI dates.
There have been some recent threads on this, so the Search function may help while you are awaiting responses from posters familiar with this relatively new program.

It’s “midshipman/men” for NROTC, no cadets.

Sorry @kinnem -I should have clarified -
My son will be attending The Citadel, so that is what I also recall.

Outstanding! My DS will be attending VMI, he was just awarded 4 yr NROTC and is submitting paperwork this week. He's in school till Jun 14th so either 2nd or 3rd NSI session (I hope).

If my DD 1st choice school has certain dates but she ultimately doesn't get into that school, or chooses another school, will "they" change her dates to match her school choice?

I dont think they are sent 'by school', but individually. At least that's how they did it last year. YMMV

Does anyone know if you can invite more than 4 guests to NSI graduation day, meaning two forms for approx 5 guests if that is possible due to Naval Service Training Command shutting down guest access for navy bootcamp graduation as well as ocs?

Looks like right now no guests are allowed at graduations; hopefully that will change by summer. DH and I were really hoping to go. . . heck, right now we're just really hoping his high school graduation will be happening (large, urban public high school graduating in an NBA arena, or not perhaps).

okay thank you, but have you seen or know any past or current midshipmen that they are allowed to bring guests more than 4

VMI is slated to attend NSI Cycle 2. July 1-21. The unit has already begun collecting required forms to make travel arrangements. I'm sure they'll provide them to you in the very near future. Congrats to your son! My son will also be attending VMI with NROTC scholarship.
