This past cycle I was trying to apply for the Navy ROTC scholarship as a high school applicant. I turned in my online application by the deadline of January 31st, I was planning on getting all other requirements: AFA, forms, and recommendations, for my officer interview, but I was told by my area coordinator that I only needed to submit the online application by January 31st, and I would have until the end of March 2023 to complete all other requirements, which the forms, AFA, and interview were listed under. I know that it is my fault for waiting this late to schedule my interview, but I was told I missed the deadline and to email my area coordinator. I emailed my coordinator and he said that the interview deadline was actually February 15th and everything was due by March 1st, and to try and apply next cycle. I am very confused because I have multiple emails from my coordinator saying that I would have until the end of March 2023 to complete these requirements. Is there anything that I can do about this?

I also have a 4 Year Army ROTC Scholarship to multiple schools, but I do not think that my career goals fit with the careers for commissioned officers in the Army. If there is nothing I can do about the NROTC application, would I be able to attend one of the schools with my Army ROTC scholarship and apply for the Navy ROTC scholarship next year? Or do I need to pick one or the other and take the risk of not being selected for a Navy ROTC scholarship next year. For refernce all of my schools with the Army ROTC scholarship also have a Navy ROTC program as well.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The last board is just about to happen if it's not already done, so if somehow you submitted all your stuff I don't think you would make it anyhow.

I am making an assumption that at some point you visited this web link. https://www.netc.navy.mil/commands/naval-service-training-command/nrotc/apply/

The attached PDF lists the additional requirements. The deadlines are laid out in a straightforward fashion. While the recruiter should have had solid information before miscommunicating the deadlines, if you were waiting to the last minute, you were not really vested in NROTC from my view. So, shame on your recruiter....but let's be honest, you should have managed this much much better, and you let it slip away from you.

Now, in terms of shifting from AROTC to NROTC, this is going to be delicate to handle. If you show up at your Cadre and mention on day 1 you have a goal to shift over to NROTC, that isn't going to make the PMS very happy. It becomes a fiscal issue more than anything else. The Army has invested money in your scholarship, and there isn't an easy way for the Navy to pay that money back.

If you think you want to go that route, I strongly recommend you reach out to the NROTC unit at your preferred university and have an open conversation about your goals. They can advise you in what is possible, and it will sound better coming from the Navy staff rather than you showing up and explaining you never really wanted to be in the Army but you thought you would show up anyway.

I am not sure if we have any AROTC folks on the forums here, but this is a grey area for me and I could use some help on what their rules are for letting people lateral transfer.

If you can afford the school you might consider applying for the NROTC unit to participate without the scholarship. You'll have chances to reapply for the scholarship as a participant. That's the course my son opted for.
