New GoArmyEd procedures for Scholarship Payments

Would someone PLEASE explain to me the new procedures and why this isn't going to be a giant clusterf@*k. Cadre and HR are telling sons one thing while people at GoArmyEd are telling them something completely different. To make matters MUCH worse, they can't submit requests for payment until one week AFTER the semester has already started (and they have presumably been dropped for nonpayment already). What the heck.

From my understanding the goarmyedu is supposed to make payment (scholarship not stipend) faster. It also is supposed to eventually make oml calculations faster and potentially release branch/duty assignments faster.

Current con that has been noticed is: the goarmyedu portal gets auto filled by existing information in ccims (I believe that's how it's spelled). Therefore, if that info is wrong, goarmyedu now has to be corrected.

From my understanding. The reason behind waiting until after semester has started to request payments has to do with ability to add/drop classes. Not entirely sure on that though so don't quote me on it.

It has also been my understanding, that scholarship payments are not released until 45 days AFTER the start of the semester. This is what we have been told the past 2 1/2 years.

On the new system I'm not sure.

I know that for my unit we didn't recieve scholarship pay out until one week ago. (This is now the old system)

Previous semesters, my sons (current MSIV and MSIII) had scholarship money credited the week prior to classes starting -- except the one year they chose room/board (then it didn't come in until the week AFTER finals). We are hoping the university will be understanding and not purge them for nonpayment.

HELP! I'm a little late to this post. But I have to ask did you all figure out this GOARMYED issue. We went to ROTC Orientation on Friday and they basically told they group that they have no idea what they are doing and that the students receiving ROTC scholarships may not get paid until November (but don't be alarmed) of course I am alarmed. What is the process that the Cadre needs to do in order for this scholarship to happen? I am very proactive, I will call them and tell them what steps they need to take. When my daughter called goarmyed they told her that the cadre needs to do something before they can see the scholarship.

I can't say I'm familiar with GOARMYED, but I will say, it's not your business at this point to "call them and tell them what steps they need to take". It's been a year and they have probably smoothed out some of the wrinkles. Those that are still there are for your DD to iron out, not you. She is going into an officer development program, where they are going to develop her into a leader, a self-confident individual who speaks up and advocates for herself. Let that process happen. Support her and guide her, but do it from the background. She has already gotten this far on her own merit, let her develop into an adult.

That is not exactly what I meant.....When the CADRE tells you that they have NO IDEA how GOARMYED works or what they are doing in GOARMYED, if I had the information that is seems that they do not have, I would pass it along to them. Oh and by the way I served with the ROO so we have a past relationship of many years.

I have NO Doubt about my DD, she is already serving and has completed both BT and AIT before heading to college. She will be just fine on her own and a strong leader.

They deactivated my cadets goarmy account because he didn't respond to an email that came while he had no computer at Ft Knox for Cadet Basic, so he is working to remedy that now

I hope schools will work with ROTC to delay required payments in anticipation of incoming scholarship funds. My DD is starting freshman year, and the bill for fall listed all the expected credits for ROTC tuition & fees - we were told will not owe unless those payments don't come through by the end of the semester. Very accommodating! I hope other schools do the same.

In our experience, it seems goarmyed automated scholarship payment was supposed to go live last semester but was put on hold (at least where we are). It's likely going to have hiccoughs this time around . In my cadet's case I called financial aid and they were already aware of the new process and had a list (presumably from cadre) of the scholarship students . Finaid confirmed the residual amount we would owe after the scholarship and housing grant and that the affected students would not be dropped from any classes due to the delay in payment of the scholarship. Ymmv

As an aside - I think scholarship cadets need to pass their PT in the first few weeks in order to validate the scholarship at least where our cadet is.

How does GoARMY ed process "fees" for ROTC scholarship cadets? Is there a section within the portal to input that information. How long does it take for them disburse the money to the school?

It's obviously different with every school. My daughter went to the University of Portland and her tuition was always paid the 1st well of school. My son went to Boise State. Nearly every semester, he received (2) late payment notices. I would call the school (NOT cadre) and was always told something similar to "do t worry, we know your son is ROTC. We know we'll get paid"

Most schools give a tuition deferment to ROTC scholarship winners. Most ROOs would have informed the school of the pending scholarship. Here is a guide to GoArmyEd. There are more detailed instructions on their website.

Yes, the cadet will create a course called Student Fees and place the amount as the price.

When it says Tuition and Fees - Flat Rate on the CPR what does that mean? In comparison to just Tuition and Fees?
