New PT uniforms?

Well then, good thing I'm bringing my laptop, you guys can have fun with your macs.

To my knowledge, the military uses extremely little to no apple products. The research labs, the issued computers, all are PC. I'd suggest you just take the laptop you're issued because they buy them basically state of the art every year (2012 got tablet laptops). Fresman year isn't really a time to try and make yourself much different from any other cadet, all you're asking for then is a little extra attention.
My friend told me that there wasn't a place on the computer they give you to put flash drive in.

I'm sorry but that to me just seems like misinformation. The idea that we're going to be issued "macbook air" like computers seems highly improbable and looks to be based on speculation and A$$-U-M(e)-tions.

I'd like to hear from a cadet on this one.

what about pandora.com? is that allowed?? pretty much just plays music related to something you search for, be it artist, album, song, genre, etc

Regarding the music issue in general...

If you come in and all you want to do is get around the 4-degree rules, such as not listening to music, you will most likely have little difficulty doing so...but is that the goal already?

Perhaps this computer is like the macbook air in the sense that it has virtually no ports?

even the macbook air has ONE USB 2 port.. and i WISH i could bring my macbook... you aren't allowed to use your own laptop as the one that they give you has everything you need... if you bring your own you wont be allowed to use it... my only fear is that i have to transition BACK to PC... and once you go mac you dont go back.. lol

To enter the academy already planning on breaking rules, without a care, raises flags about severe attitude problems.

You need to take a step back. Assess how much you actually know, and how committed you are.

Sure, you can come to the academy and not give an ounce about what the rules say, but I guarantee you it will eventually come back to bite you. Should that occur, I genuinely hope it is over a small issue and does not snowball into something big like losing control of nuclear weapons or shipping classified ICBM parts to another nation. Both of those things happened in the past few years, due to people failing to follow procedures...

Yes, I am sounding a little rediculous...
The things done at the academy are largely designed to build habits. Simply put, the rule is there to see if you will follow it and to keep your life simpler. You don't need your iTunes (and some people get distracted by it).
Yes, it is a small rule with little direct purpose...but if you can't be trusted to follow that, what does that reflect on you? Can you be trusted to follow important rules without hesitation, under extreme stress, if you can't force yourself to go without music for a couple months?

Yes! I agree with you completely raimius! Well put.
On a slightly different topic, regarding exercising, are we allowed to bring our own running shoes for BCT? If not, I assume that we'll be allowed to run in our own shoes after BCT, right?

They issue you some pretty good running shoes during basic, and you'll be expected to be "standardized" with your classmates for basic...but after, yeah, you can wear your own shoes with PC gear.

I believe that with this kind of thinking you're obviously planning on breaking the rules!...hmm. LOL

Raimus and flashback: calm down.
We're not planning on breaking any rules. At least, I'm not, I am just trying to see where the rules start and end, so I don't end up showing up without things I could ... legally...have had

Raimus, I hope this SMACK (unitedstatesAFA2013) is not in 3....My son and you could have a field day with him.

Sorry flashback...not sure what squad your in but you could have the same fieldday with this boy....

Well it seems that the cadre is starting to lick their lips for BCT.

Take heed to everything Raimius, Hornet and others are saying, b/c they are the ones that will be now looking for the rule breakers. Last yr on CC it became a huge issue, b/c appointees started talking smack and how they were going to work the system. Cadets over there told them they were taking names and appointees dared them to do it. Not a wise decision!

Not to frighten any of you, but these 2 forums can come back and bite you very quickly. They will have faces to put with names and as much as you think you have camraderie with them, they already can see certain areas that they might want to break you on. And just like the operational world, you can be my bud off duty, but on I own your a**. Don't confuse the two. Also don't start freaking out about this, keep telling yourself no cadet has died from this and I too will be fine. It really is about bonding and learning the AF way. However, if you believe you are better than everybody else, it could be a little more intense. The quicker you get with the program, the better off you will be!

Only a few yrs ago, one cadet was made famous from his MySpace page and it was a big hit on youtube of the cadre berating him on the bus. If you watch it, it takes him a few seconds for him to connect the dots on why him. Then there it is, the realization it was his my space page comments!

Not saying don't talk openly and question, just remember these cadets walked before you...just like parents they know all of the little tricks b/c they too tried them with no success.

As far as the PT gear...it is really great. Realize that only recently did the AF start an official PT gear. It is a very dark blue,(way deeper than the service blues and closer to black) the silver you see is reflective and more like the color of lead. The T shirts also have the reflective design. The weight of the shirt is great for physical activity because of how it wicks away the sweat. The shorts also wick really will too, so you will feel comfortable in it no matter the weather.

I'm going to have to agree with unitedstatesafa2013...I too have been wondering what things are in the rules and what things aren't. I don't think that means that I'll be breaking any of them.

Basically, anything you need they will give it to you. Anything that is not prohibited, they will take away.

LY I sent goody packages to many of these cadets during BCT( Ithink I sent @12)...it was a huge failure, b/c they were confiscated, but I was told that they were enjoyed by other AFA cadets :shake:

In a few weeks people will start sharing stories of how to get certain items through...i.e. pics

Enough about trying to get around the system, lets get to what we like about it.

I know I'm looking forward to reading books at attention.

I think reciting menus are more comical...afterall what cadet cares what is being served, all they want is to eat after doing butterfly kicks ad nauseum

So even if something is allowed, they will still take it away anyway? I'm better off not bringing anything then. oh well.
