New to all this and have questions

They completely discontinued the lists. Other than the personal time it was taking the couple who organized the whole thing, their reason was that there is so much more communication now, compared to when before mids had cell phones and even when there were no phones in mids rooms.

I was hoping more people would use this forum for the comments and questions formerly on usna.org. With that one, you got an email EVERY single time someone posted. Got overwhelming at times. This format allows you to control when you are online and what you want to look at. Much more efficient.

There's a parents' ListServ, but I don't think you're "invited" to join 'til right around I-Day. (Sorry my memory's bad on this.) It can be overwhelming -- when there's a hot topic, I wake up to 30 or 40 messages. Easy enough to delete them if the topic's not of interest.

Just to clarify post #20.....the www.usna.org list is being discontinued. Those of us who are currently participants received an email explaining the background this past weekend. Unlike public websites such as these, other lists managed privately take a great deal of personal time to manage and run. How it worked in the past was you filled out a request form, indicating your relationship to the mid, their name/class year, etc. and asked to be added to their list. They would then email you a password when that information was verified. You had a choice whether you wanted to receive emails of the information or if you would prefer to view it on their website. Information posted there was NOT to be publically discussed. Somewhat different than here where basically anyone can join and participate in the conversation.

So now I'm confused, I thought I signed up for the listserve at usna.org, but I haven't recvd email saying its discontinued, and I'm still getting emails, about 10-15 a day from members, but now I have no idea what listserve I joined. Hopefully I can figure it out (we got a new computer, so now I no longer have access to the old emails when I signed up) So far I'm finding it very helpful!
