1978 grad............

Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced today that the President has made the following nominations:

Navy Rear Adm. Jeffrey L. Fowler has been nominated for appointment to the grade of vice admiral and assignment as superintendent, U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Md. Fowler is currently serving as director, U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Sixth Fleet, plans and operations/deputy commander, Sixth Fleet/commander Submarines, Allied Naval Forces South/commander, Submarine Group Eight/CTF 69/CTF 164, Naples, Italy.
I understand Adm Rempt has gotten to know the former QB of the football team quite well. I suppose it depends ... like any college/university prexy. My guess is that given one's druthers, less is better as a general rule?
Can't speak for USNA but at USMMA, the Supe frequently tutors kids & is a hands on kind of guy with an open door policy. He runs a mean road race & does push ups along side the Mids at football games. He's very approachable & has an uncanny ability to remember names.

The Naval Academy's departing superintendent said yesterday that he hopes the academy community has a better understanding about "culture change that is ongoing in gender relations" in wake of high-profile sexual misconduct cases in the past year.

Vice Adm. Rodney Rempt, who is being succeeded by Vice Adm. Jeffrey Fowler, was commended at a change of command ceremony for his efforts to improve academy culture, cracking down on alcohol abuse and working to raise awareness about sexual misconduct at the 162-year-old service academy....

Vice Adm. Jeffrey Fowler has new stars pinned on his uniform by his wife, Katie, as he takes command of the Naval Academy during ceremonies yesterday.
