I just went to fill out the VP's nomination and I was surprised to find out that it is now done completely electronically! Also, they are now asking for an essay and a letter of recommendation which is interesting because of the way the VP nominations are used.

I agree, the essay and recs are interesting.

I wonder if the SA's are using these additional materials when it comes down to awarding the VP nom. It might be used as a make or break.

Who did they ask for a rec? I.E. personal or academic or choice? If they ask for personal, it gives them more insight, ask for academic it would most likely be a duplicate from their SA file.

Did they have a specific essay prompt or could you write anything?

IMHO, either way, I would not re-use an essay.

I'm wondering how the VP nomination method of submitting recs is going to actually work. Upload you recommendation letters? Are the people you ask for recommendations suppose to provide a scanned file of their recommendation letter on school letterhead with signature? Most teachers seem to think that their recommendation letters are confidential and not supposed to be reviewed by the students. his parents and everybody else. If they provide a copy of the letter so that an applicant can upload the doc for the VP nom there goes any confidentiality for the teachers.

How is everyone else dealing with this?

I am curious of that too, because I know for at least the AFA, the teacher rec is confidential. They must go on line and upload it directly to the AFA.

I wonder if the teacher will not go on the VP site, but on the SA site and upload under a section, maybe entitled VP teacher rec. I can't see how the VP office could keep track of every applicant other wise, especially since everyone is allowed to apply. Use the math, that could be 25-30 THOUSAND applicants sending in recs.

WOW, that is going to place a lot of stress on the VP nom office, especially when applicants are asking for a nom to multiple SAs.

I really can't understand the thought process in doing this. Are they now going to determine who receives the VP like an MOC does? Can you imagine weeding through all of this? It would be probably close to 100K pages. Think about it, add the cadet essay and the teacher recs than multiply by the number of applicants.

Pima, imagine all of them stacked on Biden’s desk one morning (although that wouldn’t happen)!

his face

I am just curios how much they will have to expand the VP's paper budget printing up all of these recs?

I also pity the people who review them. Can you imagine coming home from work and your spouse asks what did you do today? Nothing much, I only read 1000 essays.

No need to print them. No need to review them all. Good visual though-

Most teachers seem to think that their recommendation letters are confidential and not supposed to be reviewed by the students.
Many colleges and MOC's do require them to be submitted in a sealed envelope signed across the back. However, they are only confidential if the student signs a release form. Lots of teachers and coaches will give their students a letter for them to copy and use as they wish.
