New WLAX & MLAX Center being built

I just saw that on FB. My first thought was how did they carve out the real estate. It feels like there is no more room on the yard and then, BAM, new Hopper building, and then this. It's impressive to be sure. Pretty, too.

You know better than I do. My thought was the amount of hoops that it has to go through. I did read that it still needs Sec of Navy approval, so this might a bit optimistic.

this building is incredible!!! we will be gone by the time it opens but man it is so nice!! wish it was done now - it is massively needed!!

That’s the sound of more parking evaporating.

I predict the parking lot outside the MidStore Main Entrance or the lot adjacent to the Sailing Center. I was trying to look at the video closely - looked like it has a view of the soccer center.

Yikes. I forgot about the parking component. And my DS, soon to be a firstie (how the he🏒🏒 did that happen?) will have a vehicle next year.

To my eye, it looks like it is on the River side of, and physically connected to, the soccer building. In the current grass area.

The article did say “view of the Severn”. This place looks so different from the pictures I’ve seen when my grandfather attended. The math and science buildings weren’t there. It was water! Crazy.

My architect hubby, with his eye for all things design/build/construction agrees with the location being an addition to the soccer facility. On the grass, from the present soccer building to the water. You can see the boat slips, and Wesley Brown, in the background.

It’s beautiful. And good to get the commitment out and released for sports recruiting reasons. Whether it ultimately comes to fruition, or not. Very nice of the ‘generous donor’!! There is presently a lot of momentum in the LAX programs!!

USNA has some FANTASTIC facilities.

Delay the project. I know a future seabee that can help!
Sadly, Seabees don't really have a role in construction at USNA or really at just about any other brick and mortar site that we have. CEC Officers will probably have some tangential involvement in the planning and review of the proposed building but the rest is contracted out.

Crap.

My son told me he was told a tour he could apply for down the road is at the academy because they have a lot of projects. :/

He will end up in gitmo, I know.

There are CEC Officers at USNA but it is definitely an overseeing role as opposed to actually designing and/or overseeing the
work crews.

Maybe they will add the additional two levels to the Alumni Center parking structure that were part of the original design. The Academy caved to complaints from a small number of Annapolis homeowners that complained the height of the structure would block their views and impact their property values.

Yeah looks like it is directly next to the Soccer Center across from the 2 small Oceanography Lab buildings. Hopefully no loss of parking, that mid store lot is my pu and drop off spot ;)

Now that I have had time to look at the video in a big monitor, I think the group has arrived at a correct siting. Another big, airy, lots of light building.

Don't you mean he'll have a vehicle this year? He'll graduate next year :D. Time and tide wait for no one.
