Son has USAA bank account and would like to keep this account for USNA. Form states to bring deposit slip if not using NFCU... any thoughts?

Lots of MIDs go w/NFCU b/c there is a branch on the yard. However, I've heard parents and mids say great things about USAA as well in terms of banking.

My personal advice is that your mid should set up an NFCU account, even if it's not frequently used. It doesn't cost anything, NFCU tends to have branches at most USN/USMC facilities worldwide, and they do offer a lot of good stuff (loans, etc.) for down the road. You can have accounts at both NFCU and USAA altho one obviously must be your primary.

As the mom of a Navy son (DS1) and a mid-to-be (DS2), I advised DS2 to get a NFCU account. DS1 did not, and it definitely has caused some stress not having an actual branch nearby, especially recently when he wanted to put a cash down payment on a car. You just can't take that much out of an ATM at one time.

DS2 will also keep his USAA account open as a secondary account but will have his monthly USNA deposit put into his NFCU account.

Thanks all. We have been with USAA for 20 years and from what I understand there is an office nearby. USAA office: 125 Prince George St., right outside Gate 1 Walk Gate on Prince George.
We'll give this some more thought.

With USAA you do not need a branch. ever. this is the most phenomenal bank ever.

Cash down on a car? why?
I bought a car with cash and called USAA and got a certified check delivered to me next day. Piece. of. cake.

If you are with USAA and comfortable with them then why change?
BTW - USAA debit card is better than Navy Federal. NFCU does not refund ATM fees. Can you deposit a check online with a scanner or using your iPhone with NFCU? Nope. You can with USAA.

Thanks Just-a-mom! I have done all my banking with USAA overseas and have been happy. I'm thinking since we are set up on son's account now, it would be more convenient to keep it that way....

I personally have both and JAM, NFCU does remburse ATM fees if you are active duty and you can deposit checks online.
