Sorry for the repost I think I put the original question in the wrong thread. I am looking for some information regards National Guard Scholarships. My son attends a private service academy. In his sophmore year he joined with a National Guard Unit with the intention of securing a National Guard Scholarship. He has been a SMP for a year now and was told last year and again this year that there is no money for National Guard Scholarships. GPA/Physical testing is not a problem he has passed everything. I keep seeing ads that money is available but he is being told at the school by the recruiters that it is not. Any help is greatly appreciated.

can you define private service academy for us. The school he is attending may not have any scholarship funds available. Im going to guess he's at either a JMC or SMC. Being SMP does not guarantee a scholarship, and in fact with the current financial situation if he is SMP he is contracted, and probably isn't going to be offered a scholarship.

Sorry for the less than encouraging news.

Sorry about that, he is at Norwich University. Thanks for getting back to me.

Not sure what the scholarship situation is like at the SMCs, but there was just a small handful of GRFD scholarships given for to the MS 14 (sophomore class). Scholarships have been very hard to come by. Your son is best off continuing to SMP and using TA/GI Bill/drill pay to put a dent in his costs.

Thanks for the info. Maybe its time the Gov. start pulling the ads. I feel sorry for new entrants that think they have a shot at a scholarship only to find out once they have committed they are out of luck. Again, thanks for the info. and this settles the issue for me anyway....lol
