NO AFROTC ICSP or 2014 Field Training???

We were told at the beginning of the semester that there would be no ICSPs this semester and I've been told by several POC that we would not be getting paid this summer for FT. Apparently, cadets that went to FT last summer were told that they would be the last ones getting paid for FT until they get the budget for it.

If you were told there would be no ICSPs this semester, why were some awarded? I don't know how scholarships work so I'm just curios.

That's just what our commander told us at the beginning of the fall semester (he was specifically talking about fall but said that it would be unlikely for spring too) and that came down from Command, and so far there have been no ICSPs given at my det for last semester or this semester. They may have decided to open up ICSP applications this spring and some cadets could have received them, I don't know. He ALSO told us that AFROTC HQ said the same exact thing at the beginning of the last fiscal year and we had 2 cadets get ICSPs in the fall and then another 2 in the spring.

He said that the way it happens is that they told detatchments last year that they didn't have the budget for it so there would be no IC scholarships given out for FY13, a few months later det commanders got an email saying the AF found some money for ICSPs so the cadre should nominate their best non scholarship cadets for the national pool. Applications went out and we happened to have some stellar cadets get it. Things change constantly with the AF. They told them again this year that there would be no IC scholarships, they very well could have sent out another email later on this year that they did in fact have some money and told Dets to send in applications for them. It's not like ICSP nominations are announced, of course they tell the cadet they're putting them up for it, but if no one gets one then it isn't announced to the rest of the wing. So if ICSPs were being handed out this year I wouldn't know, no one at my det got one and I'm already on scholarship so I wouldn't have been nominated.

Oh okay. That makes sense.

Our Det had 6 ICSPs, we were notified last week. Our CC said there were 300 nationally. They were only given out to tech majors. We were told we were allowed to apply like two months ago.

That's awesome, it's encouraging to know they're giving them out again. Our det recognizes any scholarship winners at the awards ceremony at the end of every semester so they can do the accomplishment justice and allow their family to attend if they want. So if someone did get it at our det this semester, they will be notified and fill out all the required paperwork and whatnot, but the rest of us probably won't know until the ceremony unless the scholarship winners decide to announce it themselves.

The last line in this article from the AirForcetimes leads me to believe that EA's are likely to drop next week. http://www.airforcetimes.com/articl.../8-000-enlisted-jobs-taken-off-chopping-block

In case you don't feel like reading the entire article..here are the last three paragraphs.

Air Force Times also obtained an updated chart on the officer force shaping boards, which shows the number of eligible first lieutenants and captains in the Line of the Air Force and LAF-Judge Advocate categories has dropped from 979 to 546 — a reduction of 44 percent.
(interesting - not sure how or if it relates to new 2nd lieutenants)

The Air Force Personnel Center has said the force management charts are subject to change and are updated periodically. AFPC also has said the numbers are for general information and that airmen should get specific details from their military personnel section or AFPC, and that each airman must confirm his actual eligibility by contacting his unit leaderships and military personnel section.

For a complete list of which enlisted career fields have been spared and further details on force reduction plans next year, pick up Monday’s issue of Air Force Times.

I know it says "enlisted career fields".....but it sounds like they have worked out the numbers issue in regards to future needs.....

Our detachment had two ICSP's awarded to two technical degree 200's in my det... me being one of them! :)
