If all nominations are out, it seems my DD didn’t get one. She has had a LOA since October. She applied for VP nom. Any suggestions as to what she should/can do next or does she keep waiting and hoping?

Are you sure? Did she get letters of rejection from nomination sources.? Has DD explored all nomination options?

She got a rejection letter from her Congressman; hasn’t heard from either Senator, but her portal is still saying “obtain a nomination” and apparently the Senator nominations are out

I recall delays in portal updates on nominations. If the nomination was submitted on the last day, there could be a delay. Fingers crossed for your DD.

Can call senator academy coordinators. Still possible that they haven't updated yet.

i find that unusual that her application is so strong that she received an LOA and 2 senators never even contacted her for an interview? i will never understand the LOA process.

If she has an LOA but no nom, her chances diminish but she’s not fully out of the game either. If USNA really wants her, they’ll find her a nom. She may wait a while, but the wait is worth it.

My DD had this experience. Had LOA and noms for two SAs, but neither one for a third. At the end of April, that third SA sent her an LOA pending a nom, and followed a couple days later with a “found” nom. Work that Plan B while maintaining some hope.

She had interviews with them. She doesn’t think she got a nomination, as her portal still says that she needs to obtain a nomination.

She isn’t out of the game. Sounds like she is in an extremely competitive district. An LOA is a good thing. The fact she applied for a VP Nom is good too. I would continue to pursue a Plan B and keep at it. The few we have seen on this board in this situation they have tended to hear in the April timeframe so don’t be surprised if it’s a long wait. Best of luck!

I have more faith in USNA LOA process than the nomination process.

Unless something in the interview stood out negatively ... or there are a bunch of other candidates with similar or better numbers (possible in a competitive district and state) ...

Are you New York? I know Gillibrand went out but I don’t think Schumer notifs have gone out yet.
Schumer noms are out. DS got a phone call, USMMA portal updated and letter in today's mail. Hang in there. Lots of jockeying in the background. NY is a tough state!

@Brooklyn , Did she indicate USNA was her top choice? Does your MOC and Senators request a rank order of SAs?

When I spoke a staffer in my state 3-4 years ago, I was told that an LOA changed the focus of the interview/NOM process from a competition with other applicants to an in-person, inquiry into whether the LOA'd applicant is a "fit" for an SA, (i.e. Academy says the want you: is it clear that the Academy missed something).

That staffer also told me that our Congress People try to coordinate noms to pass through as many great applicants as they can. If their internal information is that an applicant has a VP nom to USNA, and that was the applicant's only SA selection, in my state at least there would be no Senate or Congress Person nomination.

I'm not in NY but perhaps they've adopted the same approach as my state.

Hang in there, and good luck

In NY - the Senators want to know if you have a nom already so they can pass them out to others.

But logically speaking - I suspect there is duplication - if a candidate is worthy of a nom from the Senator, why wouldn’t she get one necessarily from the House MOC? I know NYS has duplicates last year.

Also - if a candidate is worthy of an LOA for an outstanding WCS - why would some MOC staff think they know better? Clearly we know SAs will sometimes find a way for LOAs to get in without a nom.

All appointments have an associated nom authority. The SA may have to expend one of their discretionary noms derived from the Service Secretary or the VP nom to cover an applicant with an LOA who is fully qualified but has no elected official or service-connected nom.

When my DS had his interview with the lady from Schumer's office ( 1 on 1 interview) she did ask him to contact her if he received a nom from another source. He did have 3 interviews. He had his LOA since the beginning of OCT. He received his nom from our congressman so he did contact her right away so that would open a spot for another person.
