Hey yall! I'm currently applying to Westpoint for the class of 2027 (hopefully). I still have not received a decision about SLE yet, though I have seen countless people receive their decisions already. I know SLE carries no weight for SA's, but It's still something I want to attend haha. Is anyone aware of when they will be out? Same thing with NASS.

Additionally, I have heard that the purpose of NASS/SLE is to primarily recruit and spread the interest of SA's among people who the academies want, along with minorities (Hispanics, Asians, Indians, etc.). Is this true? Also, does anyone know the average stats of someone accepted into a summer program simply to see how I, along with others, stack up to them?

I got into SLE only a few weeks after I applied but applied to summer seminar around the same time and havent recieved a result yet.
Stats are 4.1 weighted gpa and a 1430 SAT
lmk if u wanna hear about my ECs but idk how much they care about those for SLE
I am also an Indian male which is usually a detriment for college apps but i have heard they are underrepresented at service academies so it might be a good thing/might prove ur point about them accepting underrepresented minorities.
Also for what its worth, the 3 people i know who have been accepted, me included, are all captains of our respective varsity sport.

I got accepted into SLE about 1.5 weeks after I submitted my application but it has been over a month since I submitted my NASS application and still haven't heard back. I have heard that it is a marketing strategy but then again I live next to the largest military base in the world, Fort Bragg, and still got in so I don't know why they would want to market to me. I had a 4.35 weighted GPA, 1380 psat, captain of 2 sports teams, president of a club, and student body vice president. I think the leadership part helped me but then again I have a friend who got in with similar academic stats but no leadership at all so it really depends I think. Sorry for the vague answers but that's really all I understand about the application and acceptance process. Oh yeah, I am a white male as well so not a minority in any respect.

Looking at average stats of attendees is pretty pointless because admission to SLE/SS is not a simple rack-and-stack method. As you noted, SLE/SS is an outreach program to raise visibility of the SAs among certain populations. It’s also a way to attract highly promising candidates, but that’s only part of the mission.

You’ll always find people with stats lower or higher than yours getting into SLE/SS. But there are other factors that go into the decision beyond mere stats. It’s a great program, but not indicative of one’s chances of winning offer of appointment. If you get in, great. If you don’t, carry on anyway. Most cadets/mids never attended SLE/SS.

If you don’t mind me asking, how’s your schools system work to where your weighted can be above 5.0?
AP classes are weighted at 6 points and majority of classes (10) are AP. Many schools weight things differently so I don't think weighted really means much. I would think the unweighted average and difficulty of courses ( AP/IB/Honors) is whats important. IMO

Interesting, those classes are weighted 5.0 at mine, regular classes are 4.0
Keep in mind that SAs don’t make their appointment decisions based on GPA, simply because there’s no national standard. Instead, they examine your full transcript within the context of your school’s profile, which shows the breadth and depth of classes offered. It’s a way to get beyond potentially misleading GPAs, both on the high side and on the low side.

Even if you don't get an SLE slot, keep in mind that it has no impact on your application. I and many others didn't get a slot but still got admitted.

Hi! I received my acceptance to the SLE program VIA text today. It said I would receive an email as well, and to check the portal. I did not receive an email and I just cannot seem to find any application acceptance information on my portal? Everything on the portal (other than my submission) seems like basic info. I do not see any action items, acceptance information, or next steps? Thank you for any help you can provide.
