Nomination for Naval Academy Preparatory School?

A nomination is not needed to be offered NAPS. No idea if the letter from the congressman will have any impact, but I doubt it based on no information whatsoever.

I received a letter of recommendation for NAPS from my congressman however i have not received word back. Does this heighten my chances of attending. And is everyone considered for NAPS or only those who carry a nomination.

To the best of my knowledge a Congressman does not make or influence placement into NAPS. I could be wrong, I’ve no clue who pulled the trigger for my daughter, (she’s moving on from there to USNA May10th). Hope you’re right & it helps, NAPS is a great way mature & prepare for the academy. Good Luck.

We have seen this pop up once or twice before where a MOC says they are recommending NAPS. Not sure it has any sway or not. Only admissions knows. Having a Nom or not is not a deciding factor for NAPS. There are many factors the board looks at before they recommend NAPS.

I always trust info from NavyHoops but did want to add that unless you are academically UNqualified you will not have an opportunity to attend NAPS. Only folks who need remedial academic work are sent to NAPS. Some folks don't understand that and get their hopes up unnecessarily.

This is not necessarily true. NAPS is not specifically for persons who are academically unqualified. It is another way for persons who did not receive a nomination to gain admittance to the academy. My daughter received a nomination to West Point & Air Force but Navy was already taken. She was then offered NAPS & is currently there. It was originally designed to allow fleet sailors a chance to bone up their academic skills since they had been out of school for some time. It’s also used to recruit athletes.

Good to know! My DS has noms to USAFA and USMMA but would rather NAPS.

I don’t know anything about Naps, but your comment that your DD IS “moving on from there to USNA May 10th” caught my eye. What does that mean?

Graduation from NAPS! They graduate NAPS and get some leave prior to reporting to USNA for I Day.

Haha ok. I read that so wrong! I read it as they move over to USNA May 10th. As in physically to USNA. Makes sense.

NAPS is primarily reserved for candidates who show promise but are deemed needing additional academic reinforcement, thus a true 3Q candidate would NOT be likely appointed to NAPS.

A nomination is not required for NAPS, but will be needed once a successful NAPS year is completed to transition to USNA. Furthermore, a nomination is "easier" to obtain, if you complete a year of NAPS.

Not sure that this is necessarily true.

Can college re-applicants be offered NAPS? My BGO wasn't sure, but I would love the opportunity if my college grades don't qualify me for an offer of appointment.

Unless there is something else in your application that makes Admissions say "Wow, we've got to have that kid...", I would say the chances of a reapplicant getting a NAPS offer are very low. I have never heard of anyone going to NAPS out of college.

Napsters graduate May 10, 2019. They then report to USNA JUNE 25th 2019, two days prior to the directs. OF COURSE THE ABOVE IS ASSUMING THEY MAINTAIN THEIR GPA DON’T DO ANYTHING STUPID AND STILLHAVE THE RECOMMENDATION.
It is also the time we parents loose any hair we may still have...I don’t have any more.
