Hey everyone, I am a current midshipmen who has a question on behalf of my little brother who is in the application process. It has been a strange week for him. Here is the timeline of events :

Monday: My brother logs into his USNA application portal pleased to see that he received a nomination from his State Senator. Great News!

Thursday: My brother receives a letter in the mail from the same State Senator that says "We regret to inform you, you did not receive a nomination." This letter confused him because he saw that he received a nomination on his portal.

Thursday Evening: My brother logs into his application portal and the nomination is no longer in the academy's system.

Does anyone have any guidance on this situation? My guts tell me there was a major secretarial error and my brother was never supposed to have gotten a nomination from the Senator in the first place.

Thanks for the guidance.

Unfortunately, that sounds as if that is exactly what happened.

Why would he not simply contact their office to find out for sure? His Admissions Officer? Admissions Office @ USNA?

Call the MOC office. Probably an admin error by the MOC staff when inputting nominations online, but it can't hurt to ask.

From my limited experience with the new portal, the Nomination update comes from the MOC's office. One of my candidates received a Nomination and the document was updated by a member of the MOC's office. So based on what I have seen, if it was a snafu, it was probably with the MOC's office, not admissions.

DD received a nomination from her Congressman but on her application portal it shows she received a presidential nom. Can someone explain why they didn't use the congressional nom?

Did she apply for a Presidential? Then that is normal. If she didn’t, should contact Admissions, so the error can be corrected.

The Congressional will show up eventually. These are starting to flood in now.

She did apply for a Presidential. Just unsure why they would not use Congressional (admissions does know she received congressional because she has been in contact with them).

They should all eventually show up.

If USNA decides to offer her an appointment after they determine if she is fully qualified, they will choose a nominating source against which to charge it. The final charging bit may happen further down the road. She is fortunate to have two she got on her own. Where an appointment gets charged will not show in her portal.

They know she has both then. They don't really pick a nom to charge an appointment to until near the end of the cycle.
