Nomination?

Congrats. You have earned a nomination from the junior U.S. Senator from Rhode Island, Sheldon Whitehouse.

Just be sure you understand that a "nomination" is not the same as an "appointment". The ultimate goal is the appointment and a nomination is a required step to receive an appointment. However, it is definitely an accomplishment that can/should be celebrated. Nice little Christmas present. Congratulations.

Hoping someone could offer some advice, I’m scheduled to visit the Academy in January for a few days. I was fortunate to receive nominations to other service academies but did not receive one for Annapolis. Without a nomination, will my application still be considered??? If that’s the case, should I keep this scheduled visit or would the Academy consider a VP nomination if deemed qualified? Thanks in advance.

I know folks who got in on a VP nomination. Attend the visit. It will prepare you for a decision we all hope you get to make. ALWAYS collect data whenever given an opportunity before you have to make a decision.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but, I believe your application will still be considered for NAPS without a nomination. If USNA is your goal and you are offered NAPS, you will have a path to Annapolis and a decision to make.

Appreciate and thankful for the feedback. I’m still going to go for the visit. Looking forward to it.

All applications are considered...with or without a Nomination. As part of the consideration, the Admissions Board will consider NAPS and Foundation, but again that is without an consideration of whether the candidate has a nomination or note. Theoretically, I would expect that USNA could go back, after finding out that a highly qualified candidate didn't have a nomination, and offer NAPS, but that is not the purpose of NAPS.
