If you have a letter of assurance, your appointment should be in the mail as soon as the admissions office can get it out (considering the nomination was the only item mentioned that has not been completed) If you do not, you might be in for a long wait and you must still be accepted by the academy. If you do not get selected for an appointment, you can be informed at several different times. Some people who are high on the national waiting list can be left in limbo late into the spring. I think most appointments go out around March. Good Luck and Congratulations on the nomination.

Thanks for the info. I was also wondering what my chances are for being appointed. I passed the CFA with flying colors, I am medically qualified through dodmerb, and i'm pretty sure i am academically qualified. Also the football coach has been recruiting me for some time now. What are the chances for me and do athletes get special consideration when they select their appointee's?

First Congrats on Nomination. You say you are pretty sure you are academically qualified. If you got a decent SAT or ACT and good grades in high school you should be. You say you have been recruited by the football team. Did you make an official visit? If so did the coach say they wanted you.
If he said he wants you and you committ there, the Director of Intercolligate Athletics sends a letter to your Senators and Congressman telling them you are a recruited athlete. We were told that the Director would send a letter and this was confirmed by our congressman. As for athletes getting special treatment, I think if you meet all of West Points requirements, Test scores, GPA, Physicial fitiness test etc then you are Ok. Usually coaches know when they recruit an athlete that they are qualified. We submitted everything to the coach before we even committed. Hope this helps. Let me know.

Thanks. I was supposed to make an official visit and when it came to the day a playoff game fell on my visit day so it didnt happen. But i filled out many forms sent to me from the athletic offices and i recieve updates every month as to what the program is up to. I dont know if this means anything but i also am wondering when i can expect a letter saying i'm 3Q'd. I already recieved a dodmerb notification of qualification. This whole "waiting" part is the most difficult out of everything.
Doctor D is right, but I will elaborate. I was recruited by West Point and many others. (not for Football) Filling out paper work and receiving updates does not mean that that you are actually recruited. It means they have an interest in you.
Making the official visit and having the coach say I want you to play here and we would like to know with-in a given time period if you wish to play for us. Its called committing to play for a certain college. At a regular college they usually make you an offer and not necessarly at the time of the visit.
I would contact the coach if I were you and ask him if they continue to have an interest in you and let him know you have your nomination.
Most college coaches are very honorable and will tell you if they continue to have an interest, but remember while they are looking at you they are looking at dozens more. It is a game. I had one coach tell me I have to look at 25 to 50 players sometimes to get one position player.
By the way I have received my appointment and will be in the class of 2014.
