Not getting into SLE at this point bad?

I have not gotten into SLE yet but I have gotten into Summer Seminar at Navy.

My hope was to be able to attend both to get a better comparison of the two schools.

I have noticed others posting about SLE admission, and I applied I think the day it opened, so once I saw this It made me wonder if maybe I wont get in. Having applied so early, what are the chances of still getting accepted?

I would like to know because I have considered attempting to change my NASS week to better accomadate SLE.

Thanks

SLE or Summer Seminar offers are NOT accurate predictors of their respective academy appointments.

LOTS of mids and cadets have gained appointments without attending the summer program.
This is a good point, and is good to remember, I was just mostly concerned about missing the experience and opportunity of SLE, which I have heard mixed reviews on how accurate it is anyway.

Hey I wouldn't worry about it bro. I'm in the same exact boat as you, already got into NASS and applied to SLE on the first day. Don't really know what the deal is, but all you can do is keep on trucking. Like many have said, SLE doesn't really correspond to one's odds of getting an actual appointment, but just like you I really just want to experience the academy. To be fair we still have until April 15 to get accepted for SLE.

DS attended NASS last year and did not get invited to SEL. To validate your point. He just received an appointment to USMA last Friday! Concentrate on what you can control.

DD attended all three DOD SA summer programs for rising seniors. She’d tell you that they provide an accurate overview of respective cultures and tribes and settings. She’d then tell you that of course it’s not reflective of real SA life, because it’s summer! School isn’t in, there aren’t many mids/cadets around, it’s relatively quiet. SLE or SS are not meant to be accurate representations of SA life, because that’s only possible during the academic year. Attend because you want to get a “general feel” for the place and people, not because you’re going to get a “day in the life” experience.

Not gonna lie, and this is in part due to SLE and NASS being virtual last year, I got so much more from weekend visits than I did at SLE and NASS. Seeing the academies during the school year really is the most valuable thing you will have over the next year. And on the summer programs, I got into NASS a month before I got into SLE, and of the 6 people now in my district who’ve gotten into USMA with me, I was the only one who did SLE. A couple didn’t get invited, and a couple didn’t even apply.

So there is still a possibility of getting accepted to SLE? That was what I was curious about.

Don't stress over SLE. Only a small portion of my peers went. I thought it was fun, but awkward, and not at all reflective of the Academy experience.

You could still get in until they send you a message otherwise. I know not receiving correspondence from the Academy is upsetting when your peers are, but SLE acceptance is not necessarily conditional on merit. It is a recruiting tool. I had a roommate with a 16 ACT but was a minority from an underrepresented area of the country. She did not get in to West Point. From personal experience, daily and overnight visits with a cadet where you go to classes are much more productive and informative.

I agree completely. DS is now a plebe and doing well. He was not selected for SLE. He did visit in fall of his junior year for a day visit and he was able to follow a cadet and go to a class. For him it reinforced his desire to attend, and he came away thinking that it was "doable" and that he was academically competitive based on his experience in sitting in the class. For DS he was concerned about the low admit rate and his test scores were in the average range--and he had to grind to get his scores up to the average. Good luck to you!

There is still time to get accepted into SLE if you have not yet received a notice that you were not offered. As mentioned above, you will get a much better sense of both Academies if you go during the academic year for a visit.

My DS got into NASS as a junior in 2020 and had to do it virtually. He never found out if he got into SLE as they quit sending out acceptances once Covid hit in March. He too had applied the first day it opened. But he did go visit. He is a happy plebe at USMA this year.

I got my offer on the 28th of February.
It's on a rolling basis, so I got mine quicker than others.
Found mine in the spam folder, amongst emails saying that I won a free TV, so check there.

I didn't get into SLE but I received an LOA, a senatorial nomination, and a very early appointment...

Trust me, don't worry about getting into SLE. There's a lot of work you need to be doing between now and January 31st (SAT/ACT prep, working out, etc.) that is waaaaay more important. If you work on the things that are in your control, your chances increase exponentially. Good luck!

DS applied for SLE was not accepted. Had no LOE or LOA but did have a very early appointment.
