November NROTC board results known?

Son tier 2 major awarded in November. Accepted to USNA, USMA & USAFA in January.

Still waiting on NROTC, Going through with transfer process for AROTC, DS got wait listed at West Point and rejected by USNA. He is cool with it all. He's excited about college in the fall, where ever. I wonder what will happen if West Point calls? I'm almost out of gas...

Hi, Marciemi! I expect that my DS is eyeballing the same types of schools as your DS (my DS has applied to Harvard, Northwestern, Stanford, etc.).

Just wondering what your son heard back from NW today? After the excitement of the MIT acceptance last week, it was a bit depressing for my son to get waitlisted today by NW. He was gambling that USAFA would be his only rejection, but guess we can (at least somewhat) add this one to the list. Since it falls on his choices well below MIT, USNA and Michigan (all of which he has acceptances to), the sting probably wasn't as sharp as it could have been!

DS got dinged from Northwestern today. He's off to PT, preparing for Beast Barracks.

hopeful_mom, we're all running low on fuel. The important thing for us parents is to keep SMILING!!

Our kiddos are learning important life lessons in this final year of high school.

Good for him! :thumb: Is he seriously planning on WP, or is he waiting to see what all pans out with his NROTC/civilian options? Where do you think WP falls on the list?

Agreed. Actually, I may just be coming down to a normal level of anticipation. DS thinks I've been a wee bit high strung throughout this whole process. He could be right. Now, I'm sort of just matching his "what ever happens happens" attitude. He is right in that it's out of his hands now and never was in mine!

Any tier 3's get NROTC scholarships yet?

I just got into my top choice NROTC school...but I'm a tier 3 major so I am not really hinging anything on it.

Oh and a sidenote- I was dinged by Northwestern too. I'm ok with it though, I honestly only really liked the school because it was next to Chicago and it was in the B10.

Currently, WP is his No. 1 choice. But he hasn't properly investigated the ROTC side of the house yet and really can't do so until his college choices become clear over the next week.

My gut tells me that it will be WP in the end. But this ultimately has to be his choice, and all I can do is push him to inform himself in excruciating detail about all of his options.

The most challenging thing for me is to see him apply to total crap-shoot schools and see him get dinged. But he understands that this is part of the process.

One bit of advice I gave him at the beginning of this process was: "Reach for the stars, and if you happen to grab the moon, that ain't half bad!"

Congrats, danger zone! Fate has a weird way of sorting things out.

I don't think NROTC will work out for my DS at this point. He's been rolled over so many boards that he's getting dizzy. Also, USNA has known since January that he doesn't have a nom yet, but still no TWE. I think there is a higher being telling DS "DON'T GO NAVY!"

My son is a Tier 3 also, and has heard nothing from NROTC. He found out today, though, that he was accepted to his #1 (GW) and #3 (UVA) choices for schools with NROTC units, and also to a special international program at Columbia. We've just about given up on the Navy. I think they grossly undervalue a quality liberal arts education. It wasn't like this when I went through.

...and now he's been accepted to Georgetown's Walsh School of Foreign Service, and been offered a full ride at Fordham. He was one of only 30 students selected for the dual-degree international program at Columbia -- still not a peep from the Navy. Do they really feel that strongly that engineers make the best officers?

Exactly

I read your post and was moved to write. I can feel your anxiety and love for your son through the computer. My prayers are with you guys. Please keep us posted!

CEO's too

CEO ranks are loaded with those from liberal arts backgrounds. Congratulations on the good options; glad there are still great choices out there.

I can only imagine what a difficult job it is to pick scholarship winners. Each year, scholarships of all types get more and more competitive. I would not want to try to sort out and make those awards. Like most I am just humbled by our sons and daughters that have the strength and courage to serve.

I'm totally starting to go crazy here in CT...haven't heard from NROTC, Coast Guard academy, or the naval academy. I've pretty much given up hope on nrotc, I've had my application in since October and not a word (like so many other people). It's just so tough because I've put so many hours of work and effort into all the applications, interviews, and everything else that goes along with it, not to mention years worth of hard work in and outside of school. I feel like NROTC almost disregards all this effort....I feel like a complete snob and an arrogant little you-know-what saying this, but with everything I've done and my scores, I just feel like, who are they taking? I feel as if it's almost luck, and I'm sure there are people out there who are as fed up with this as I am. Obviously there's still a little more time, but at this point, who knows. I'm sorry for my little rant, just had to put it out there!

Don't give up hope danman. Everything can change on a dime. So many on this forum were sure they would not get into the SA or not get the scholarship, and then one day, poof, there it was! Hang in there! It's just a bit longer, but do try to make arrangements for plan B. At least it will give you something to do!
