My son has been awarded the NROTC scholarship with Marine option. His first school of choice was UNC at Chapel Hill, which he did not get into. He submitted a placement change request for the University of Florida, which is he second choice. We just recently received an e-mail indicating that he may not get into the program at the University of Florida. We have an official visit scheduled for Friday 20 April 2012. My questions are:

1 Seeing as we live on Long Island, should we still make this tripi to Florida?
    2. What are the chances that he would be accepted to another program?
    3. His the scholarship in general in jeopardy?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Congratulations to your son on earning his scholarship. Sorry to hear about school selection issues.

I am sure you will get some great advice from others with much more experience than I have. Just wondering if your son has tried petitioning UNC for a second look (with scholarship in hand)? I recognize it is a highly selective school but may be worth a try.

I sent you a PM also

I'm not sure if you mean he may not be accepted to the NROTC program at U FL. or the school. In either case his scholarship is in jeopardy although I expect they work with you on transferring to a college he was accepted to, provided there is a slot. You should perhaps start considering some other schools on his list more intensely. At the same time I wouldn't close any doors either. A 'may not' is not a 'no'. Just my opinions as a parent.
