NROTC Change in status

Good Morning.
My son emailed me a change in how his portal looks today. IT is more detailed but says “No decision has been made on your application” Is that pretty much notice that he was passed over this first board? Anybody else’s status change or have more info on their portal? Thanks.

Has the first board met already? It generally takes a couple weeks after the board meets for decisions to come out and the portal to change. As I recall, my DS' portal said something similar to what you posted until his scholarship was awarded. As you may or may not know, if he is not selected during a board, he is not notified and there is not change to the portal to reflect that. Not change is made until a scholarship is awarded or he is turned down. The turn downs usually seem to start coming out in February in years past. If his portal just changed to No Decision Has Been Made, it may just mean it went from pending something that was missing to board ready and no decision made yet.

Second that. Both my boys had this change reflected as it moved through the pipeline. It reflects that things are moving along properly.

Both of my boys didn’t have a change until they were awarded scholarships. And that also involved an email. It will Be very clear!

Good luck to him!

Thanks so much. So the “No decision has been made....” means nothing? It seems like it is a pass over but I also understand that it also seems like someone has in the review had to input the information too. Thanks. This mom is getting too old for all this. I miss the days of my daughter where everything was done by mail. LOL No obsessing that way.

No. It means exactly what it says. "No decision has been made". A decision will occur at a later date. If the board hasn't occurred it could be the next board or a later board. If the first board has occurred it will definitely be made by a later board. You may see this message all the way up through the last board.

As @kinnem stated, no decision means it’s not ‘yes’, not ‘no’. 1st (and subsequent) board, whenever it is, looks at however many applications they can get to. You may get an offer, which prompts a change in that status. Or you may get put in the ‘maybe’ or ‘no’ “pile”. Which keeps the status the same. Or it may not be reviewed that board bc time has run out for them reviewing. Status stays the same. You won’t know where you are in that processes.

IOW....it won’t change until it’s a for sure YES or NO. Both of my guys were yes on the first board, so I don’t know much about subsequent boards...but I do know that applications that aren’t awarded early aren’t necessarily a “no”. They can be in a “maybe” pile. And be there until it’s all over. So it’s a waiting game.

Good luck to the applicants in the pipeline! Your messages regarding the status change also confirms that my DD did not get boarded for this round, although she submitted her application and completed interview by early June. The regional coordinator just wouldn't upload the provided documents. Then two business days before the deadline, DD was informed by the new coordinator that most of her documents were lost due to the staff change, so she rushed to collect the letters of recommendation from teachers and the statements from the Unit officer all over again. She did manage to supply all these documents again in two days, but the portal status still remains the same. From the summer through October, she also barely got any responses from her numerous Emails to the coordinator. It's so unfair to her. Wish you all the best in the coming board!

Oh my gosh. I am so sorry. That is truly heartbreaking. I am hoping that the demonstrated interest shown in her re-doing everything goes in her favor.

My DD login to her portal today to check the status and it says,

"Application has been submitted online Your electronic application has been received and is being processed ...Your application is at Naval Education and Training Command for final processing and selection determination. Selection decisions will begin in late August and continue until the end of April. Once a selection decision has been made, your new status will be reflected."

Her recruiter had told her packet had been submitted several weeks ago. She didn't see anything else about being boarded. Does this notice sound right?

My son’s hasn’t been updated in weeks and shows he is still pending an interview which he has already had and it shows him lacking all recommendation letters. They have also been done. It seems the coordinator has went missing. The Army’s process is way more streamlined.

You may want to have your DS reach out to his coordinator to make sure everything has been submitted.

@TNElvis Yes. If one is not selected by a given board then they are reconsidered at each future board. She may not hear a positive or negative reply until April. NROTC Navy option generally has a board about once a month.

@kinnem speaks the truth - This is definitely a "hurry up and wait" type of scenario. Be proactive - if you are still showing pending and the interview has been completed - reach out and make sure everything has been submitted. Good Luck

Our DS completed his app in August 2018. He was not notified that he had received a scholarship until late April 2019. After the first board, his portal never changed from the "No Decision has been Made on your Application" until he was awarded in April. If you have turned everything in it's time to hurry up and wait.

The funny thing was we were at USAFA standing in Arnold Hall at an appointee tour the day he was notified.

Believe it or not, this isn’t as uncommon as one may think. Same thing happened to 1st son. And 2nd to a lesser extent.

These recruiters are assigned, and reassigned. Over the long process Some simply leave. Whatever work they had in progress is dropped, and no emails anymore. Not all, but some (many?) do. I picture a change in staff in an office... BUT, it’s also a good lesson in follow up, paying attention to the details, etc. No matter how unfair it is, it happens.

Don’t be discouraged...has the first board actually met? If so, there will be more. The first one doesn’t have much activity. And she will be towards the top of the review pile!

Good luck!!

If I recall correctly, that sounds like the status right before the status that says no decision has been made. The current status means the package has been received in Pensacola and is being reviewed to be sure it is complete before and board can consider it.

That is the exact message my son had until Tuesday when it changed over to the ”n no decision has been made”

So, if you are an obsessive type, if you went back to last year, you would see a 9 day interval between first day of first board and first notifications. Just saying. Of course that’s IF you are obsessive. Of course that wouldn’t be me.
