We had the same concern going into his NROTC interview. But as it turned out, my DS' interviewer asked him if he applied to USNA, and he told her he had and that he had received an LOA. My DS said it was a huge plus in her (the interviewer's) eyes, a Navy Senior Chief. It showed he was serious, informed, competitive and wanted to be in the Navy. He said they chatted about USNA, his experience at Summer Seminar and how it differs from NROTC for a bulk of the interview, a huge plus. Good luck! He received his appointment in December and his 4-year NROTC this month to his first choice school.
