For those that are curious on notification timeline for the early board, here is a track of activity for my DS. Of course, "individual results may vary"...
19 Dec -- DS received phone call from CO and XO of recruiting station. They congratulated him on being selected during the 8th MCD early board. They also told him that paperwork would be arriving "in a couple of weeks."
Online status remained at:
"Your application is at the Marine Corps District for board selection."
7 Jan -- Online status changed to a very verbose page that reads like this:
The NSTC Selection/Placement Office has received your application.
Missing Items
All required items have been processed.
Selection Status
No decision has been made on your application.
<Plus a bunch of demographic data along with school choices>
From what I understand, the basic process for Marine Option applicants is:
1) Online application submitted
2) Interviews/PFT/misc forms completed by RS
3) RS forwards packet to District
4) District board is held in Nov (early board) and in Feb (regular board) Results are due to MCRC by 1 Dec for Early Board and 1 Mar for Regular Board.
5) MCRC receives District selection board results. Once MCRC approves results, they are forwarded to NSTC for school placement
6) Assuming this next step where paperwork arrives, DoDMERB physical requested, etc.
In my son's case, it looks like he was given his heads up call around the beginning of "step 5".
By all admission, this is no official gouge, but more of an informational gauge on what possibly to expect.
Good luck to all the rest of those waiting.
