NROTC MO Interview

Hello all,

I had a couple questions about the interview required for the Marine Option Scholarship in NROTC.

1. Must the interview be conducted at the desired college campus? My number one choice is the U of Michigan and logistically, it may prove difficult, however, it is a possibility.
2. What can one expect in their interview? Will interviewees be given an outline of what to prepare for, or is it expected to be on the spot?
3. I have read that the interview is conducted the same day as the official PFT, does this mean that there are lower expectations for presentation, dress-wise, or is that not even a concern?

Thank you for the help,I greatly appreciate it

@Kadbebe: all of this is covered in previous posts. Use the search function to find and read them.

#1. No, it will be done by your local Officer Selection Officer (OSO)
#2. See previous posts
#3. Marines don't believe in lower expectations

Dress to impress and bring a bag with your clothes to take the PFT after. I am sure there is a bathroom you can change in and take a moment to collect yourself and mentally prepare.

One of my DS's recruiting district's offices was located locally so he interviewed there. He wore sharp business casual for the interview and then changed for the PFT. It was raining and cold and conducted outside (at least the run was). The PFT will almost always be conducted by a Sgt of some level, so make sure you're crisp on form. Do not let the Sgt's massive biceps scare you! :D And.... USMCGrunt was only half joking in his comment about lower expectations.

When you do get around to visiting some colleges, try to set up an interview at the unit as well, if you haven't already. It gives you a chance to become familiar with the unit (each one is a bit different) and an opportunity to ask questions. It can help set your expectations. We initially met with the freshman adviser at his #1 college but also ended up, unexpectedly, spending time with the PNS. We also met with the MOI at some other units... those meetings were a little more intimidating. :D

EDIT: Like any interview, whether for a job or anything else, there is no "how to prep" form. It's on the spot and the course of the interview will undoubtedly vary with your answers... and also with the personality and interests of the officer conducting it. Just be you and answer from the heart. Canned stuff usually doesn't impress.
