I was hoping to learn a little more about this stage of the process... Is anyone who has recieved, or had a DS/DD recieve the scholarship able to tell us about their experience? Does it vary or is it fairly standard? Thanks in advance.

Each district / RS probably handles it a little differently. My son's district likes to do it at an "event" -- like a professional basketball game or sports venue, or at a high school (if awarded as a senior in high school.) The RS will probably be contacting you and will do it as a public affairs event.

Now, having said that, sometimes plans don't always go off. My son was awarded the 4 year while already a college program midshipman. He was awarded / presented his in front of a bunch of PLC officer candidates.

Basically, it's a cardboard check with a dry erase name put on it. Make sure they spell your name correctly -- moms like that in the picture.

My DS got his at a high school awards event for seniors. A USMC Officer and Staff NCO came for the presentation. Other posters have reported a military bias at their high schools where this presentation isn't allowed. Still others have reported that they had no "event."

Rocatlin: Interesting point about the name - My DS got a printed check (large placard type board) with his first and middle names transposed. I told him to forget about it - as long as they don't make the same mistake when they pay his school bill!! I believe it is still sitting in his closet and is long forgotten.

Well, actually my son's was even more interesting... Not only did they mispell the last name, they actually didn't have the current CO's name on the check. He didn't get to keep the check. They just continued to erase the name and reuse it.
