Does anyone have any information? We thought mid was going to the 2nd cycle was just informed that only 3 out of the freshman class were chosen. No updates, no information. Will this effect the scholarship? Is there a possibility of updates? How do people get information?

My DS communicated with the Navy Detachment at School the scholarship has been placed. They provided the information, travel orders etc. He is currently attending NSI Cycle 1. He did receive an email around mid-May informing him of his NSI assignment. Did you Mid connect with the School Detachment? They might be helpful with clarification.

I agree with @MomSupporter. Reach out to the unit. There should have been an email sent (and maybe even hard copy) notifying your Mid about their award/selection and hopefully contact info. My daughter had been in communication with the HR Assistant at the school where the detachment is. We actually got to meet with the CO and the HR Assistant last month when we went in for a tour and they confirmed that they do all the travel, provide orders, etc. Everything is just pretty behind right now. I'd definitely have your Mid reach out to their unit to ask.

Agree. Your mid needs to ask their unit directly.
Orders may not be received until days or a week or two before each NSI cycle or cruise. my DSs orders came two days before he left. It varies. In general Big Navy and your unit will let you know when they are ready to let you know. Your mid can and should ask ask for specifics whenever needed but get used to “stand by to stand by” waiting and free advice is to try not to stand out as being impatient. Does only 3 chosen mean for this cycle or to attend NSI at all? If not attending NSI this summer your mid May end up attending NSO at your unit a few days before the semester starts like the college programmers by your battalion/ leaders from your unit. Some smc schools don’t attend NsI at all. I would not assume anything but just again confirm directly. Good luck.

That's a great point, @Herman_Snerd. SMEs are exempt from NSI now. So I suppose it depends on which school your mid is attending.

As someone who hates surprises and likes to have contingency plans, this "stand by to stand by" is definitely going to take some getting used to. I'm learning to embrace "Semper Gumby"....

This is our first time going through this process, so I want to make sure our mid doesn't miss an email with her details to get to NSI as well as figuring out how all of this applies to school. I have no idea if it just "happens" or what we need to do to have the scholarship applied to tuition, dorm, etc. So many questions! But I realize that this isn't the first class to go through this so I assume that her unit and her school won't leave her stranded on the street.

Sorry for the ramble. Coffee is finally kicking in. hahaha

I hear you @kimchee432 - our first time too. DS received the travel orders (flight information included) 3 days before departure. The HR assistant had given him a “heads up” that likely would be the case, but I have to admit it was a little nerve racking. DS was pretty cool about the whole thing, so I just need to chill and let it work itself out :)

Thank you ALL. We have reached out to the "unit commander" have yet to get any information. I don't want the mid to be a pest nor do i want anything to be missed.
They don't make anything easy 🙄
If there is any updated information please pass it on. Thanks

If there is no email response, work the phones. It can be hard to reach cadre this time of year due to leave and different summer assignments. My DS had trouble reaching his contact the summer before NROTC. We eventually got an email reply from his location in sunny, downtown Kabul, Afghanistan.

The best person to reach out to would likely be the Human Resources Assistant and/or Freshman Advisor at the unit. They would be more involved with setting up NSI. Any of the officers, including the freshman advisor, may be assigned elsewhere during the summer. My best suggestion would be for your mid to try calling (not emailing) the HR assistant if he has not already done so.

Sounds like your Midn is getting their first Navy/NROTC NSI lesson.

Fair winds.....

DS just got an email about NSI 2. Only two MIDN are going to NSI Phase II. All other MIDN are waived from NSI this summer.
My son is very disappointed now.

No need to double post. See my reply on your other thread. I believe this applies only to his individual unit.
