NROTC or Navy Reserves?

Hi all,

I am currently a high school senior. I am very interested in serving in the Navy Reserves. If there was an option through NROTC to join the reserves, it would be perfect for me, but I don't want to go active duty. I know that NROTC is a path to active duty officers, but are exceptions ever made where people are allowed to join the reserves?
I have also considered enlisting in the Naval Reserves, but I am concerned about missing my first year of college for training, and the possibility of deployment in the middle of a school year.
I know that I can also wait until graduating college, then join the reserves, but I really want to get started.
Do I have any other options that I am overlooking, and can you please advise?

Thanks,
Christina

Christina,

Have you researched what is the mission of the RC (Reserve Component)? Or what is your role in the reserve?

Is being ordered to deploy when you are in your civilian career after college easier to handle?

How do you gain the experience? I hope you don't think by just being a "weekend warrior".

What is your reason to rush?

NROTC is only for individuals who want to serve as active duty naval officers following college. You can not become a reserve officer following graduation and commissioning through NROTC.
