I have submitted my application before the first board for the NROTC scholarship and I still have not heard anything regarding the status of my application. After reading through some of the forums here, I have seen some people say that the March/April boards are "formalities" and that mass rejections all come out from these boards. I was wondering if anyone had any insight or support/denial of these statements. After contacting my NROTC coordinator, he said that my application was "boarded," but no decision has been made. I am not 100% sure what that means as well. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.

They are definitely not "formalities". Many scholarships are awarded on these final boards. And there are also a lot of rejections that will come out now. The Navy will now be finalizing their decisions. At this point, they have all the applications in front of them. They know what the pool looks like, so they have the full picture. Your status means just what it sounds like. Your application has been reviewed and is currently in a "maybe" pile. The board that reviewed your application did not believe it was strong enough to be a definite "yes" at the time. It also wasn't an immediate "no". The boards will be going through the applications that have not been reviewed yet and making decisions and also going through the "maybes" and making final decisions. It may be the end of April before you hear anything more.

I'll speak to my own experience; I submitted my application for the first board... was not awarded mine until after the last board, did not hear until April. It's not over until it's over, the fact they have not rejected you completely is a positive sign. Hang in there!

Thank you for the help. I am currently waiting to hear from the Naval Academy, as well as this scholarship. The waiting is always the worst part. Hopefully I hear something soon (results from the last board should be out within the next week).

Waiting is definitely hard. Hopefully you have alternate plans in place in case USNA or NROTC scholarship do not come through. Best of luck to you.
