NROTC scholarship notification

Congrats! I am a bit new to all this, and probably confused. My understanding was that if you are a college programmer, that means you're in the ROTC without a scholarship while you're taking classes. I thought they required a minimum time of observation before they could recommend you for that sideload scholarship. I also think I heard something about if you haven't taken a certain amount of credits, you can still apply for a full scholarship. Would his scholarship be retroactive to the semester he already finished? Is his not considered a "sideload scholarship"?

Congrats to all the awardees.

They've had nearly a year to observe him. I expect her DS will need a total of 5 years to graduate. This is often typical of engineering programs. So Navy will be picking up the remaining 4 years.

Your understanding is correct, if you include the something you heard about part. You can apply for the 4 year scholarship program while a college programmer if you have less than 20 college credits. This is separate from the sideload path. I don't believe it is retroactive, but we don't yet have those details. He is majoring in Mechanical Engineering which, at his school, is a 4.5 year program. So this takes the pressure off to try to compress his degree program into 4 years.

Today around 11 am my portal was changed and I received an email stating that I was accepted for a 4 year Navy ROTC scholarship to Oregon State University. Pretty far, living in West Virginia and going to WVU. A huge sigh of relief after being rejected to USNA last year. Don't ever give up!

Congrats. DS is an AROTC cadet at Oregon State and has many friends in NROTC there, since many of the first year ROTC cadets/midshipman live on the same floor in the same dorm there (Finley Hall- 7th floor). Yes, a far choice for you, but OSU is a great campus with a strong ROTC presence there (all branches are represented). Good luck! :thumb:
