Hello all, does anyone know if parents attend the NSI graduation? I’m sure some do, but I don’t want to be too helicopter like. Do the majority of the students have a family member or two attend the NSI graduation, or is it only a few that attend? Thank you.

Search on the forum in title only for "NSI Gouge" to get some general info on what to expect for NSI and graduation (at least from last year's NSI, things change).

There are other threads that talk more to your specific question but I couldn't find them easily.

A fair amount of people show up for the graduation. Probably average about 2 people per candidate. I believe you can have up to 4 people attend graduation, but don't quote me. It is interesting and fun to watch them march in. The whole thing takes like 45 minutes. The majority of the time you are trying to figure out which candidate is yours as they all look exactly the same. You will only get about 10-15 minutes to talk with your new Midn afterwards. They then rush them off to finish endex and get on buses to airport.

Wife and I went last year, but that was because we had miles to pay for airfare, and found a cheap hotel about 20 minutes away from base. We treated it more like a weekend away(never been near Chicago) rather than a graduation event. Don't go to a lot of expense to see graduation in person. It is just one step in many of the Midn's journey.

The stands were packed when we went to graduation last year and it was amazing to see them march into the building and take the oath (think goosebumps). My DD was selected to carry the flag for her unit after the young woman originally selected ended up receiving an award. We were very happy we made the decision to go when she called us the night before graduation to share the news she was carrying the flag. It is pretty cool to get their phone call the night before graduation and know that you will see them the next morning in uniform. All in all an amazing experience if it works with your schedule and is affordable!

Once my wife sees this post we’ll be making NSI graduation reservations.
We can’t miss it. It would be unpatriotic!🇺🇸
