Reapplying to USNA this cycle and willing to do anything to reach that... is there ANY way I could bring an SAT study book or something to NSI? At least for the 2 week ROM period? A kindle? Anything? I understand NSI might be a rude awakening and I won't have time, but I don't want to leave any stone unturned

Thanks!

Curious, why are you asking this? Did you receive your orders, and is there something in the instructions that expressly prohibits bringing a SAT study book or kindle? Please read prior recent post - another poster attending this year stated because of a reported restriction of movement (ROM) period they were encouraged this year to bring a kindle as there will be periods of isolation and perhaps some level of on-line training. What are you reacting to / where is the fire? NSI will be different this year than prior years. Any questions on options not clear in your orders should be directed to your unit. You could also load hours of SAT prep to your phone and read that material in your way to/ from NSI at a minimum.

Once out of the ROM and "in it", I don't recommend breaking out a book after lights out or whatever but if you try it, when you return please let the group know how that goes:idea: Honestly I recommend just following orders and try not to stand out other than for outstanding performance. Recommend you focus on being present and getting through NSI and yes/sure optimizing allowed time for your priority and dream - maybe this year that could be many ROM hours of SAT prep vs watching youtube or whatever - good for you - just keep in mind over 100 people didn't finish NSI in the last cycles 2 years ago. Again, be prepared, be present, and focus on completing NSI when NSI is "on".

Good luck and thanks for your interest / willingness to serve.

Another thought - your USNA application will be considerably strengthened if you excel in and have a recommendation from your NROTC unit. So just make sure you are focusing on doing well there and that you don't wash out of NROTC at NSI or in your first semester because you are not present but distracted by looking ahead to a potential future elsewhere. Your idea of being something other than 'present/focused' at NSI is a bit of a warning flag of concern, fyi. I do understand though that maybe the ROM will provide you more unstructured time to use. Good luck.

Do you have to take the SAT as a college student in order to reapply to USNA? My kid only applied once for c/o 2025 and will be going the NROTC-MO route. As a reapplicant, I didn't even think about test scores. For whatever reason (cluelessness) I had only really thought about the other parts of the application. Can anyone go and take the SAT or ACT when it's available?

Sorry - not a helpful answer to your question (other than to say that Kindles are allowed).

retaking the SAT is not required as your scores stay in the portal, however if there was a lot of room for improvement you may want to think about taking them again as this is part of your overall package. weigh in your own mind how much can you really improve, and how will that effort take away from other efforts you are making. for example, i think every effort should be made to get the highest grades in your college classes while excelling at your NROTC unit. dont let that slide just to go up 50-100 points on SAT. my DS didnt retake SAT (as it was fairly high) but instead focused on his PT scores and overall body strength during the summer prior to college (NSI helped to start that engine) and then he 100% focused on NROTC and school, taking the hardest classes available and he did receive an appointment by the next Feb. study hard & good luck!!

Good advice!

I just never thought about where they even offer the tests to non-HS kids. If she decides to reapply to USNA her scores are good enough that she'll likely just use those. Congrats to your son!
