Official USAFA Class of 2016 Appointment thread

Thank you insider:thumb: anyone else analyzing the timelines...it seems that there may likely be a delay of a couple of weeks between the MOC call and the BFE. Insider was able to confirm my DS's offer and said the portal will change Next Tuesday (that's 13 days after MOC call). The BFE should arrive a few days after that. Whew. I was starting to think it was a really bad dream or an awful practical joke. I still can hardy believe that this is "real". This is my oldest child of many- I cried last week bc of the call, and I was so proud of him; I cried this week bc of no BFE and i thought it was a mix-up; and now I'm about to cry again bc it looks like this is really "for real". I wanted him to reach his goal of an appointment but also wanted to be able to keep him with me forever. I wonder if there's a forum for separation-anxiety mothers. Ugh.

I definitely know that feeling "oh no...they mess up...there's no way this is possible." It is definitely the best feeling once you have the BFE in your hands though I still sometimes think there has been some mistake (but no way am I going to point that out). It will come with time and all you need is that final stretch of patience until you have to start thinking about the next things to wait for.

The only clue we had that a call may be forthcoming was the reading of all of these posts and what seemed to be happening in various parts of the nation relative to this process/procedures. We rarely answer a phone call where we don't know the identity of the caller. Everyone in the house was on strict watch to grab the calls regardless--they would just have to tell the telemarketers "not interested". The call came on a Wednesday evening around 6:30--just after DS walked in the door from baseball. There seems to be no trick in figuring out days or times. I think the MOCs know the activities of the kids and ours did a great job of catching him at home. I answered the phone and his aide asked to speak with my DS. Had my DS not been home, I don't think I would have been told. The MOC himself then got on the phone and spoke to my son. My son then sent an email to his liaison who replied that we have a reason to celebrate. We haven't heard anything since with the exception of that wonderful insider who calmed my fears.

I know the "still think there must be a mistake" feeling. I have a great DS most of the times, but I certainly could help point out some flaws if I was asked to be critical of him;) I thought I would quit worrying about his future when we got the notification--not. I'm still trying to be sure his plan B is in line in case he pulls a dumb kid-trick or the sky falls on him or something. I think the poor kid is looking for was to Jack'smValley to get out from underneath my wrath:)

I just sent you a PM.

Ok--I get how to do this now, but I made a response to this in a separate thread comment. Sorry..(probably why I'm not the one headed to the AFA)

Can anyone give me an idea of the time frame between the first BFE and the second one?

I sent in my acceptance in early March, and still haven't received anything.

Thank you!

It takes a few weeks. If you get really concerned, call/e-mail your Admissions rep on Monday. Congrats again!

Alright, didn't realize it would take so long. I'll wait another week, and if I still haven't heard anything, I'll bother them with a call. Thanks again!

yeah me too i accepted mine a week ago and they said it would be sent immediately but still havent gotten it.

Hi everyone. This is my first post here. I don't know the acronyms, so bear with me. I'm the Dad of a candidate for 2016. We're from No. VA. Here's our status; I have to say we're nervous at this point, and unsure what to do:

We've checked in with our Congressman and our Senator (two nominations), both have not heard anything. My son's application page still says Candidate. We have not received a letter (TWE?). Our ALO has no further information, but indicates my son is at the top of his list and says hang in there.

My son has strong credentials (2240 SAT, 4.0 GPA), scored well of the physical test, and he attended the Summer Program last June. His dream is to be an AF physician....or fly fighters (ah...if only I could be 17 again ). Thanks for listening.

Seriously?
Just be patient, he's getting in....

Edit: as long as the things you say are true... ;)

Umm... I wouldn't necessarily say that. Just because he has an amazing PAR, doesn't mean that he could have a great WCS. I've read on past threads with candidates having super high - near perfect test scores and not get in, while candidates with average test scores got in due to their well rounded application.

No one knows how the decisions are made but just wish we would hear one way or the other. We have known many appointees from our highschool with different strengths that all graduated too. What a difficult processes with so many talented, exceptional candidates! we have not contacted our Moc or Alo yet but sure thinking about it. Patience is truly a virtue!

It's been said before by someone on this forum (CC or Flieger I believe) that they knew someone with high ACT (35/36) that didn't get in because they didn't stack up in leadership positions/sports/extracurriculars. Though their scores are great and will definitely help a ton, no one is guaranteed to get into the academy.

That said, good luck SilverWings! Those scores are definitely impressive!

Holding pattern

My daughter has yet to receive her TWE or final BFE. Waiting patiently in San Diego, CA.

As much as you would like this to be true this is not always the case. The academy does not necessarily pick the best candidates. They are obligated to pick a certain number of people from each state and then fill in the rest from there. I had extremely high test scores last year and an unweighted GPA of a 4.00. I got a full NROTC scholarship to MIT and an AFROTC scholarship as well. I was a well rounded candidate overall and I did not get in last year. I applied with almost the same application this year and got in. If your son is unfortunate and receives bad news from the academy I encourage him to reapply. If it's what he wants then he should continue to move towards his goal. Good luck and I hope he gets some great news.

Congrats and I second the re-applying part!:thumb:
