Official USAFA Class of 2016 Appointment thread

Oh my SDK! I was so rooting for you and everyone else still waiting.

I am positive that you will do well at whatever path you take to reach your goals!

You are all worthy IMHO.

Aw, thanks! I'm still tying to push for a USAFAPS appointment! They are being sent out now... so the wait continues....

Whoa not what I meant. Sorry.
I meant would next years National Wait List be 50 slots larger than this years. in my example.

OH!

My bad!!

There's no way to know that at this time.

All I know is that I was blue chipped.

This term was thrown around with my son about a year ago. He never took it for granted that he was in. He still pursued(continued to update his data) and kept in contact with his coach and admissions(probably to the point of annoyance). He did not rest until the BFE was on our table, even after the coach called and said it was on the way. His application package was completed in mid-August. I truly believe now that having that application finished early was my son's saving grace. Many who have similar stats to him have received the TWE this week. I was pulling for the many students who were regular posters on SAF. Most if not all of the candidates exemplified all the traits USAFA is looking for. Word to the wise for C/O 2017 high school juniors: Start the application when it opens and work diligently until it is complete. Do not wait for the due date to finish it!

WOW! I'm so sorry to hear that. So you were recruited as an IC athlete? What did your AFA coach tell you to expect during the admission process?

He said that my test scores are a little bit low for this years competition, and I knew that (I just couldn't bring them up anymore after many attempts!). He said in September when I visited that they will be pushing for a PS appointment as a year there could help me out academically.

Excellent advice by KDC. DO NOT let up on the pressure for the coaches to complete what they started. Being recruited does not guarantee anything

My son took them at their word last year at WP and became the forgotten man. This year he re-applied just because he loved it so much, but he lost out on his dream because a coach was let to forget about him. Be careful and don't let that happen to you. You've worked to hard for it.

A Prep year will help you emotionally, academically, and in competition. If it happens, it is a really good thing. My DS, who is an IC, would have really benefited from another year (there are kids on his HS team this spring who are older than he is now). As a group, the Prep School cadets are doing pretty well. BTW SDK, you must know I was really rooting for you, I'll keep hoping that good things come your way.

Good advice to keep in contact with the coaches. I was "blue-chipped" last year but something went wrong and the class closed before I got an offer. I decided to re-apply and have contacted the coach many times to make sure things were going okay

Just returned from USAFA day with a cadet

My husband, DS and I just returned to Calif. from the USAFA for a day with a cadet. My DS was SO EXCITED that he couldn't sleep on Monday night (before our Tues. morning 6:30am flight) and our scheduled tour was Wed. at the USAFA. We had about 10 students and their parents in our group, and after an hour briefing in a room with parents and kids, the students were each paired with an individual cadet and toured the campus, went to classes, and ate lunch with that cadet. My son returned from his tour more excited than ever... He cannot wait for I-Day, and he said that this visit made him even more sure (hard to believe) than ever that this is everything he wants and more! I was impressed by everything, from the quality of the people who shared their expertise about the academy (including a female professor, a female recent grad, and a female grad who was our tour leader) all of whom were truly AWESOME. They all made me proud to be an American and proud of the quality of the graduates of this amazing institution. Then, seeing all of the remarkable young men and women throughout the campus made me proud of the fine young cadets that this campus is molding, shaping, training and educating. My husband and I were in awe, and my son could hardly contain his excitement. We were all so happy we went, although we are all exhausted tonight. Our flight arrived around midnight. They spoke today about how challenging the competition was for each slot this year. I know that countless talented and inspiring young people who were fully qualified and deserving of a spot did not get their dream. I am heartbroken for you because I do understand the price that has been paid to be in competition for these precious few spots. I will continue to pray for your dreams and goals to be achieved; whether it is by re-applying next year, accepting another school's offer, or another academy's offer, or pursuing the ROTC offer that you may already have. I know that some of the students today may not accept their offers of appointment. So, some of you may receive a BFE still... Keep in mind that some will not accept their appointment by this Sunday, so you may still receive your appointment. I surely hope and pray so... My best to every single one of you. batmom:smile:

It's all good. Keep on keepin' on.

This admission process must be a disaster for the USAFA. Attrition still happens over four years. History will tell how this class will endure. The other academies protect their numbers by taking cuts at other levels. not at the lifeline.

In CA, MOC are the primary source of nominations. Senator noms do not exist. The MOC makes you choose which academy you would like to attend. My DS recieved a NOM and we were visited by a Colonel, 2 Lts and all for not. They wanted my son but the USAFA did not. Lottery winners are attending. The class of 2016 are the Schwartz kids.
Disappointed. SDSU 2016 and computer engineering. Go Aztecs beat AF.
