And when these old goats were mids, they were every bit as cynical and critical of the leadership, but as the saying goes, “USNA - bad place to be, great place to be from.”

A very close family friend graduated in '70. If you ask him what his favorite memory is of USNA, he will always say, "Watching it in my rearview mirror as I drove away after graduating." Yet he had a 30 yr Navy career, and encourages all he loves to look into attending the academy, including my son. Sometimes you don't know how much you loved something until you left it. And that's OK!

So THIS is what happened...professional reporters saying it better than I. Both of my Mids have connected with an old goat, via one of the methods listed. Both have had a couple meetings with them. Great conversations, ideas, and mentorship. Both told us about their old goats at our Thanksgiving FaceTime. Pretty sure this relationship will be important to them for longer than cancelled Thanksgiving liberty. A hidden blessing!!
