Oppenheimer anyone??

Just saw it a second time. One of those movies where there’s so much going on that a second viewing helps connect the dots. Also prompted quite a bit of online research after the first time. It was a complex story to tell, and I liked Nolan’s way of telling it. Oppenheimer seemed brilliant, eccentric, complicated, tortured.

Great responses and I 100 pct agree. I went with my Mid. Who is a physics/math mind. I wasn’t sure he would enjoy it but he did. He loved it. I did for different reasons (not a science mind, myself).

I’m glad to read about seeing it a second time. Bc I agree there was a lot going on and feel the need to do the same. But thought it’s bc I’m older and not ‘quick’ with stuff. I also will need to Google a few things.

I LOVED how the musical score added so much to the experience. We saw it at an imax theater and that was awesome.

I was concerned about the length. But it didn’t seem long at all.

Highly recommend.

Saw it last night. Loved it. I especially liked learning more about Edward Teller. I never knew the politics of, or that there was an A-Bomb vs. H-Bomb issue. I now know the difference between an atomic bomb and thermonuclear bomb.

Had me googling a bunch of names.

Very enthralling and fast moving. The last 30 minutes—where everything falls into place—slowed down considerably, since I hadn’t limited my liquid intake earlier and didn’t want to miss anything.

Funny story….I knew going in it was 3 hrs. And was concerned I would fall asleep or be annoyed it was so long. I had heard it was in two sections. I assumed that to mean an intermission. So, when it ended, I had the thought ‘wow that first part went fast’ thinking it the intermission. Obviously it was the end. My point is that perception of time was off. It did not seem long.

Some cinema gouge (that doesn’t constitute a spoiler): While Oppie and Groves are awaiting the test detonation at Los Alamos, Oppie says, “We’ll find out in one hour and 58 minutes.” That moment occurs— you guessed it — 1:58 into the movie. 😉 (So if you’re minding your bladder, less than an hour to go! It’s three hours long only if you watch until the end of the credits.)

I loved it.

I want to take the wife & see it. She isn't interested. Never heard of Oppenheimer, she says.
She wants to take me & see "Barbie". I won't go unless I can bring a flask of Jim Beam with me. Never heard of Barbie, I say.

Stand-off.

We're kinda like the Russia-Ukrainian peace talks right now. Neither will back down. We both lose.

This fall I wan't to go see "Napoleon" with Joaquin Phoenix. At least she's heard of him. Let you know how that goes.

She will like Oppenheimer. I didn’t think I would, but it was time with my Mid. I LOVED it.

Mrs. cb7893 demands to watch ALL of the credits for every movie. I went the distance, but rushed out before the credits began. When the movie ended there was an opening of the floodgates.

The other thing she demands is to watch the every recap and intro to every episode of a series we may be binge watching. It's not that she needs reminding or that the credits mean that much. She reasons, "We paid for it. We're watching it."

... not seen the movie. DS is here now... not interested in watching Barbieheimer😔

My son and his roommate went to see Barbieheimer. They did the actual double feature. As someone with a physics degree, I expected my son to enjoy every minute of watching Oppenheimer. As a 22 year old young man with 20/20 vision, I also expected him to enjoy watching every minute of Margot Robbie. That double feature is a win-win in my book...

More trivia:

The imax showing have been extended to the end of august. The 70mm IMAX film REEL actually weight 600lbs, and is 11 miles long.

There are only 19 IMAX theaters in the US (one in our town!!). People are coming from out of state to view. and there’s been reports of ticketless going on eBay for 500$ for IMAX viewing.

Idk how different the experience is, but we watched in an IMAX. Felt the movie in my bones.

I thought the way they used sound was amazing. Like The one scene where Oppenheimer gave the speech to the crowd in the gym bleachers after they dropped the first bomb on Japan; phenomenal.

Did you see in IMAX?
